Anyone yet to hear from Duke? I see rejections posted since Feb 28. But nothing on my portal yet.
-
Same question here. I am waitlisted at a program where I know that one person with an offer has declined and another one will be doing so (both in my subfield). Plus another person on the waitlist in my subfield has also declined. So, really hoping for some movement but do not know how to approach this.

I see a couple of Duke rejections now. But nothing on my portal yet. I thought they would at least send rejections all at once.

So, is it fair to still have some holes from UPenn? Because except for one acceptance, there are no acceptances posted here or on the results page.
-
Anyone claiming a Penn acceptance - especially CP?
-
Congrats. If I may ask, how were you notified and when?
-
I think they were accepted off the waitlist. And just some time back, another person had said they were turning down their offer. Looks like their waitlist is moving.

Hi! Thanks for this. On the subject of waitlists- would you say that institutions who have chosen to have a waitlist in this cycle are more likely to be in a better shape financially and hence more likely to use those waitlists- if first round offer holders decline? I would assume that even waitlists would be shorter given the situation this cycle and only programs in a position to admit off waitlists would have them?

Yes, ironically the generous funding makes me more worried and less hopeful about my chances. It seems unlikely that someone would let that go.

Just thinking about how could things different in a T-50 University? (Brown for CP to be specific.)

Just read this article about Penn reducing grad admissions this year due to the NIH cut::Penn to reduce graduate admissions, rescind acceptances amid federal research funding cuts (cannot share the link here) While the Trump administration is the culprit, I also cannot help but feel angered and frustrated by the preferential treatment given to the physical sciences and the stepmotherly treatment that is reserved for humanities/social sciences. It has been the case forever and here too it appears that ultimately the social sciences/humanities would have to bear the "indirect costs". Honestly, the funding in STEM/Physical Sciences program is much more than social sciences, so it is absolutely abominable to see that the response is to take away the very modest funding that social science programs have.

Definitely a sick troll

Yes, my uni (in the US) had classes today. But I think most places have a day-off today. Fingers crossed for everyone for the week ahead!
-
Seems like a rather slow start to the week.
-
I've noticed that quite often results come in relatively late in the day- after 4 pm EST.
-
Anyone here who is on the Brown waitlist btw?
-
Hopefully, it is specific to only a few schools and not a general trend this cycle. I just get the feeling that waitlists would mean slightly more chance than usual years. I do not see why schools would waitlist if they are not interested to go to the waitlist. A sentiment echoed by a current grad student at a T10 in the other forum.

Thanks! Here it is: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/167536-pol-sci-2024-25-waitlisted-candidates/

A forum for waitlisted candidates to share their anxieties and make the wait a bit easier.
-
To those who have been waitlisted at various programs: I am thinking about creating a new forum. I think it would be good place to just discuss different things and share our anxieties- I guess it is a bit frustrating for others to see those posts here (and understandably so). So, should we make a new forum?

Congrats on the WL! Hoping that you can move from it.

Still a bit of a surprise. Yale and Princeton seem to have gotten 450-500 applications in the last two cycles. Maybe the bump at Michigan is also because it does not require the GRE- but even that is not a new change as such,

Thank you for sharing this here. May I ask if things could be a little different this year because of the indirect effects (if any) that PolSci departments might face due to the proposed grant cuts? Is it possible that this year the universities could be more conservative with rolling out initial offers- they might make fewer initial offers than a normal year which in turn could mean people on the waitlist (which would also probably be smaller this year) might have a bit more chance? Thanks!

Can we expect Yale and Penn results this week?
-
Thanks- this makes things quite clear!
