  1. I feel the exact same way! I am of course extremely grateful for the increase as well, but I think it's unfortunate that for months they never mentioned shortening the length of the award. I understand that CGS was always 3 years, but I definitely thought that these changes would mean that all the awards were 4 years. Otherwise, exactly as you said, the scholarship is not really increasing from 20,000 per year to 40,000 per year, but to 30,000 based on shortening the length. I think they should have included this caveat in the original budget announcement.
  2. Yes, I got an email last night saying "Information regarding the increase in value to your Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral award is now available in the new SSHRC extranet for applicants." The document states that the annual value of SSHRC doctoral awards cannot exceed $40,000 while the total value cannot exceed $120,000.
  3. Just got the new documentation... So the awards can't exceed 120,000 total, so they are now three years instead of four years? I got CGS and was hoping it would increase from three years to four years but oh well. For folks who won SSHRC and were expecting a four year award, what's the deal exactly? Do you have the option to get a lower amount and stretch it over four years?
  4. Anybody having issues with SSHRC saying your request for first instalment form is incomplete when it's not? I've been asked to upload the form again with Part 4 completed and signed, but I already did that so I'm confused. I reached out for clarification but just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.
  5. Yeah I wondered the same thing. It's just confusing because the latest announcement at the end of May said that the Vanier and Banting will continue under their current parameters until they are replaced by the streamlined talent program outlined in Budget 2024. I assumed that meant they would be replaced this year, but maybe not. So I wonder if it's just going to take longer for them to be replaced, or if they will somehow still be a separate award under the streamlined talent program?
  6. I thought that the Vanier was being discontinued with these changes, as it was outlined in the federal budget, but the 2024-2025 competition was launched a couple of days ago and still says it will be $50,000 per year for three years. Hopefully we get more clarity on everything soon.
  7. Yeah, that's what was outlined in the federal budget. Moving forward I don't think there will be any separation between SSHRC/CGS, as it's just going to be a single doctoral award under the new "New Talent Program". I just hope the New Talent Program is a four-year award like SSHRC and not a three-year award like CGS.
  8. folks with a September start date, are you waiting to upload your first instalment form? It says it can be received up to 6 weeks in advance, so I wasn't sure if that means don't upload it until 6 weeks before.
  9. I'm not sure! I don't think everyone gets told that they were recommended for funding, I think people who were told their application is meritorious but that there was a lack of funding get put on the waitlist. But I don't know the details. I'm hoping that the increased budget could mean more awards for folks this year but still nothing confirmed
  10. oh my god I won CGS!!!! I am in shock omg. last name M, committee 4. 10.78/12 (5.35/6 on research and 5.43 on relevant experience) just heard directly from SSHRC.
  11. Thanks for clarifying. If you were recommended for funding, does that mean you are on the waitlist? I'm hoping that since the federal budget mentioned an increased number of scholarships for SSHRC/NSERC/CIHR that more people may get off the waitlist this year. so frustrating either way! fingers crossed for you
  12. ugh that's so frustrating, I'm sorry. did you hear directly from SSHRC or your university? are you in the L-Z last name group?
  13. Thank you for the update, fingers crossed you got good news?!! Do you mind sharing what committee you are in? Just curious if there is any pattern to how they are releasing the info to universities
  14. I believe it's still unclear if/how the proposed budget changes will impact this year... Hopefully the increased amounts start this year but nothing has been confirmed
  15. this is just so brutal at this point. an update from SSHRC would be nice to at least stop the constant refreshing lol
