i saw one acceptance on the draft for the university of south carolina poetry... did anyone hear back for fiction?

i was emailed about an hour ago! USF is one of my top choices so really hoping there's some movement there...

hey that's totally normal, please don't beat yourself up about it. i'm in the same boat if it can be of any comfort (only rejections for now, 2 hard from UW and UM and 1 soft from Vandy) and trying to stay positive about it. there are really hundreds of people applying for only 3-10 spots so the odds are really tough, and for this reason, your results absolutely do not reflect the quality of your writing. maybe your sample just didn't resonate with the adcoms, and there could be so many reasons for this. a way i like to think of it is imagining if i were part of an adcom. if i had to choose between two samples, both extraordinary, one absurdist and one more realist, i would advocate for the realist one, simply because it is more in line with my taste. that doesn't mean the absurdist text is worse than the realist. this is probably not how adcoms work, but it's a good exercise for my brain to keep me sane and not give up on my dream just yet.

ahhh thank you, i really love their support of genres beyond literary fiction and it's one of my top choices! i was wondering when they would release results, considering acceptances came out of feb 14th last year and there's nothing yet on the draft...

me too! i started wondering if i'd dreamt of submitting it

this is my second time applying and i can definitely say that last year i was devastated that i didn't get, and i think that was due in part to the fact that i was looking at an mfa as an escape from my reality. now, i'm planning my life as if i won't get in: renewed my contract for my job, looking for a new apartment, vaguely planning summer travels... maybe i'm a bit too extreme, but it really soothes me to think that my life isn't over if i don't get into any school. i would be beyond happy to dismantle my plans, but i like having them to avoid getting too invested in whether i get in or not!

from last year's data acceptances and waitlists were released on the 14th and rejections on the 15th. i get that it's a saturday but it seems strange that for a class of six there were no acceptances or waitlists reported on the draft

same here for fiction... i was waitlisted last year and have been dreaming about it since. my phone is currently in a cupboard to keep myself from staring at it lol

hi! i was wondering the same thing and came across this book by katie naymon, "you between the lines," where the two main characters are mfa students (poets). it's a light-hearted romance with some great insight into the day-to-day life of an mfa student (the author is an alumna of uncg)

the email from vanderbilt's program director finally came, it was so sweet and personal. i had a little cry about it because i was so, so close. but really grateful at the same time.

thank you bagel, you bring me hope (of peace of mind, at least)! vanderbilt is a long shot - literally who are those three people who would turn it down? - and I couldn't attend nyu anyway without funding. so yeah, really upset about how it went down this year. but congrats to all of you that made it! super enthusiastic for you!

do schools usually send out an official email along the lines of "sorry - you didn't make it off the waitlist" or are we supposed to assume we're out after tomorrow?

hello all! this season was a bust for me. applied to five schools and ended up with two waitlists: nyu and vanderbilt. i know vanderbilt is never going to happen but i wonder if anyone knows anything about nyu’s waitlist movement… any information is much appreciated. thank you

hello! i've replied directly to the email informing me of my waitlist placement - don't take my word for it though, i haven't heard back from either school i've sent it to lol

can we assume that by now brown is a soft rejection? or could they be calling/sending out waitlists today as well?

Yes... although I already threw in the towel for that one. I applied there because, well it's Brown, but I know their program is very experimental and my writing is quite anchored to realism. I guess 2025 was not my year!

Praying for your grandmother. I know she is proud of you either way, and any acceptance or rejection would not change that.
