  1. I called to ask about funding details.. the person i spoke to said it will be in the mail package and since I am in Mumbai, I will not recieve it till next week. So she checked for me taking my name n details and said I did not receive any funding unfortunately :(

  2. i got a $10k financial aid for the first year through a Starr Foundation Asia or something ( 5 thousand each semester) but am paranoid about it just being a loan of some sorts. Also when can you accept the aid ? there is an incomplete document - "signed award letter". sorry i just found their website confusing !

  3. this probably means nothing and maybe i am just imagining this but on the columbia application page

right at the bottom - there is something like "we look forward to working with you and a blank and not submitted.

I wanted to ask the admitted applicant if this means something ?

thsi is my overactive imagination at 5 :30 am !

  4. check the responses ! i did my part as well, but didnt realize she had already replied :)

      Hi Jessica,

Does this mean that decisions will start to be realized today, and then throughout the week? Or will all decisions be released later on in the week?

I know that this might not be possible to answer. However, im asking it in order to know for how long i can wait until i need to check my email/GAMS every 30 minutes icon_smile.gif

Thank you for your continuous blogging, it has been a pleasure following the updates.

Hi N — Yours was probably the quickest comment on a post I’ve ever received! icon_smile.gif I’m still being mindful of answering questions, rather than opening new ones, but it’s ever trickier. One part of your question is easy: All the decisions in the “will” category described in the post will be released together.

As I said, I’m not directly involved in the current phase of work, and I hesitate to blog-nag those who are. I can say that we’re close, but the exact timing will depend on how quickly everything comes together. I’d encourage you to stay far from GAMS (and even leave your computer) for a while longer. Checking email won’t make the decision turn up quicker. And checking GAMS may actually make it turn up slower, if everyone else checks it, too. Of course, that’s easy for me to say, since I’m not the one who has been waiting for so long! Deep breath — patience!

      Hi Jessica !

I second N and my post is almost entirely identical but this is the 50th time today, that ive checked the admissions blog itself.
It is alright if you cannot answer, just hoping for any sort of indication, so that i can stop refreshing my GAMS server.
Your blogging has been directly responsible for keeping my sanity intact(almost).
Hope I hear from you !

I hope my answer to N will help you, too, Neha. I don’t want to be cagey, but I can’t pinpoint a time for such a detail-driven task that’s so technology dependent. Be glad it’s not the old days when all we did was send out the packets and tell applicants their decision was in the mail!
  5. "Every other school asks prospective students to submit copies of transcripts and original transcripts are required only after the admission..." - this is not true. Common, but not true.

Also, there was a deadline. Sometimes they're difficult to meet. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to get transcripts and any other information from Germany, India or anywhere else outside the US. It is difficult enough for me to get them from my community college, undergrad and grad. However I am not at all surprised by their response and you shouldn't be either.

    Good luck.

yes it is unfortunate, but i think they did their bit by extending it till February 1st.

Also , with things like transcripts it is always safer to have extra copies and also mail with services like DHL which are easy to track and ensure delivery in 48 hrs .

They said they cannot guarantee it will be reviewed, so there is still hope for u that there might be some chance that is reviewed.

  6. Hi ,

I called Fletcher two days back! Because things like fee etc showed incomplete. However, they said by the end of next week , everything should be updated so i should call then. Their blog also says that as long as your online application is complete, they are OK with documents through post arriving by Feb 1st. So if there really is a problem and they still haven't received your transcripts at all you can probably send via something like dhl and they would receive it in 48 hrs or less.

I checked mine today after reading your post ! and everything is complete. so just relieved !

  7. Hi their website and online application says that. international applicants must send the financial proof for application to be processed. i really hope i got that wrong. In the downloadable forms sections there is a form that says international applicants only. It says that since F1 visa requires atleast 3 ontsh for processing , they need to know your sponsor details along with notarized bank letters. And it is strongly recommended that this goes to them with the rest of the application. !

  8. Hi !

i wanted to confirm a few things , I left these 2 applications for the last minute.

Does anyone know if either of these two schools have a resume page limit ?

Also, I am an international student and have committed a major major gaffe. I had no idea i had to send financial documents to George Washington showing proof - that i can afford the university. banks tatements etc. I can only send them by dhl on monday afternoon - Indian time. Will probably reach them by Wednesday. Do you think it would be too late. I only just discovered this now. Fretting way too much.

Also for the MA in international affairs sop at GWU - they have asked for just 500 words  . and they say to talk about goals , research interests and why the school . that doesnt leave space for any backgrd about myself. !

Pls comment n share your thoughts about these 2 applications.

  9. Hi , I am applying for the Masters in International Affairs track with an International economic relations specialization at American University.

There were a couple of things unclear , so i called their office and confirmed , just wanted to share the info.

The first essay - the main statement has a limit of 1200 words

The second essay - about personal or professional challenges is purely optional ( but i would go for it - 500 words)

The resume should not extend 2 pages.

    Hope this helps !
