Awesome! Did everyone get the email: Each Fellow is expected to devotefull time to advanced scientific study or work during tenure. However, because it is generally accepted that teaching or similar activity constitutes a valuable part of the education and training of many graduate students, a Fellow may undertake a reasonable amount of such activities, without NSF approval. It is expected that furtherance of the Fellow's educational objectives and the gain of substantive teaching or other experience, not service to the institution as such, will govern these activities. Compensation for such activities is permitted based on the affiliated institution’s policies and the general employment policies outlined in this document.

I was actually wondering about this same question the other day when I noticed one of my professors includes that he is a Fulbright Scholar in his email signature. But I didn't think NSF was nearly as prestigious to include.

MS/PhD generally just mean people who applied to the MS program but indicated that they intended to pursue a PhD after obtaining their MS degree. This allows the program to be somewhat condensed by maybe a half year or a year in that you can start doing some of your coursework requirements for your PhD as you are finishing up your Masters.

Mine finally changed a few days ago, so it took almost 3 weeks since I submitted the change the day the reviews came out. I requested for only a change in schools, and to defer (reserve) it for one year.

I think most schools have a general goal of the number of students they want to admit to their program for a coming year. Say for example, say Department A is looking to bring in about 20 students a year. If in the past years, they have found that about 50% of the people that they accept will decide to come to school and study in Department A. So Department A sends out about 35-40 acceptance letters in the first wave. Department A also sets aside a separate list of candidates, the wait list, which they dig into if they don't achieve their quota, or decide that they want to raise their quota a bit. So in the example given, if only 18 of the admitted students decide to come to Department A, then Department A will dig into their wait list to try and get to 20ish students. To answer your question of what your chances are would be hard. It would depend on how many students Stanford's CEM program is looking to take for Fall 2011, and your position on the waitlist (some schools rank applicants on the waitlist) Disclaimer: I'm not 100% sure what I said is right, but it is sort of the assumption I made after reading through these forums the past few months.

Hi, I'm looking for a 2 bedroom apartment near the engineering buildings, I also won't have a car so relatively close to bus line and markets would be a plus. Any suggestions? There seem to be so many apartment complexes! I'd like one that is quiet and has little to no undergrads, and mostly grad students that are married and/or with families

Has anyone had their status come off of "Pending NSF Approval" since requesting a tenure change?

I submitted my request for tenure last Friday, stating I was changing my grad school from the school I listed in my proposal (I'm an undergrad now), and also choosing to reserve this year of the NSF GRFP as I am planning on using it years 2-4. How long does it generally take for them to accept the tenure requests, and do they always get accepted in these cases (I'm not sure what I would do if they rejected my choice to change my school lol, since I already told the school I would be coming). Well Dr. Fahnestock offered me the funding initially via fellowship and 12.5% RA, but he said he was unsure who would have the project for me: him, Dr. LaFave, or possibly a combination of the two of them. But now that I got the NSF Fellowship I don't know how the funding is going to pan out, they are supposed to get back to me with a revised funding thing for my entire MS/PhD now.

At this point it will either be Dr. Fahnestock, or Dr. LaFave, or both.

So when I logged in I had Welcome Fellow and a bunch of information about fellowship on the right panel, I also was able to print my award letter to PDF. Tried to view rating but got some weird error. Am unable to log back in.
