One of my applications due tomorrow (aaaaahhhhhh!!) is asking for "Publications and Patents: List articles, books, or any other material published, or any inventions patented." Would this include anything I have turned into my university as a term paper, etc.? At my last school I was told by a professor that a paper turned into a class automatically is copyrighted by the school, but is that always the case? Can I use term papers as publications?

Yeah I'm having some trouble with this one too. Having a lot of friends that go to Berkeley, I know they really value diversity (I know that's a obvious statement). I'm half Bolivian and half Irish so I will talk about that a little but moreso in terms of how I relate to those around me. I'm applying for Ethnomusicology though so it's VERY important that I talk about the importance of diversity on a school campus. Try to highlight how you are diverse and what kind of original personality (if not heritage), ideas or attitudes you will bring to the school.

I just took the GREs for the second time yesterday and did a lot better than last time (V: 610, Q: 730). My GPA is alright. I have a TON of experience in the field (well, music and media), and will have great letters of rec to go into an Ethnomusicology major with a focus on 20th-21st cent. American Popular Music, Jazz and Musical Theater. Undergrad at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Francisco State for Communication Studies and a Music Minor. The schools I'm applying to in no particular order are (for the terminal MA:) CUNY Hunter College, Rutgers (New Brunswick - Music History), UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara; (for the PhD:) UC Berkeley, NYU Steinhardt, Tisch School of the Arts (for Performance Studies). Where do I have a chance?
