  1. Oh great, now I'm worried - I didn't make it past the 1200 mark!
  2. Brandeis funds some, if not all, of their MA students. Check out their website.
  3. " Although I'm still reluctant to take women's history seriously but I am open to it" Ummm.....
  4. So are you applying as a transfer student?
  5. "Queer history: Somewhat small pool of people don't you think? While many women do women's studies, the pool of LGBT doing queer history seems somewhat small." This makes no sense. This statement assumes that ONLY women study women's history and only queer people study queer history? Huh?
  6. Interesting post and excellent predictions! But I think you've missed the largest one - In the 60s and 70s, women's history become a genre of historical studies in its own right. Studying the history of women was no longer just a subset of studying society/culture at large. Instead, faculty began to devote whole articles, books, and classes on the history of women. Yes, this did happen here and there before the 60s/70s, but it wasn't until then that women's history really became a solid, legitimate field. In the future, this will happen with gay history. Queer history will come to have its own genre. It's definitely an emerging field now, but it has quite a bit of room to grow.
  7. Only someone pursuing a PhD in History (or English I suppose) would use the word "fora." Love it! Consider me a fan, qbtacoma.
  8. Don't stress over it. Everyone - and I mean everyone - has something they wish they had changed/edited before they sent in their applications.
  9. Many professors emeritus (emeriti?) are still very involved in the faculty, especially if they live close by. So I can't imagine it would be a problem since you didn't list him/her as your potential advisor.
  10. I'm at King's. Sorry if I was too nosy.
  11. Emerson, what college are you in?
  12. 20th-century America - SURPRISE!
  13. All of my letters are in, as of this afternoon. I thought this would ease the fretting, but my anxiety only seems to have crescendoed into obsessive worry.
  14. That is exactly how I felt! How in the world are we supposed to do that in two pages? I think it would have been much less stressful had we been given five pages, or at least four. I edited and edited and edited again to get it down to 2. It ended up being 2 pages and like 3 lines, double spaced.
  15. Yay! Must be a relief. Meanwhile, two of my professors haven't sent in any of their letters yet, and some of them are due on the 1st.
  16. I know EXACTLY what "small, extra piece of writing" you're talking about. I avoided doing that for like three weeks. I finally bit the bullet this last week and did it. It was the hardest part of the application I think.
  17. Waiting for the letters to come in is nerve-wracking. I'm tempted to send a reminder email, but I don't wan to seem like a nag. Anyone else apply to Wisconsin?
  18. Yes, I decided to go with this one because it got good feedback from my professor, I feel like it represents my style, and (most importantly?) it shows that I can work very closely with a variety of primary sources.
  19. Thanks Sparky, you've put my mind (somewhat) at ease.
  20. I am getting a bit worried because my writing sample is not on a topic that I address as a research interest in my SOP. In fact, my writing sample is on something completely different - totally different time period AND region. But the writing sample I submitted was my best work. How important, if at all, is it that your writing sample concern something that you cited as a research interest in your SOP?
  21. That link makes several references to Brown's terminal MA program...
  22. This is my attempt to resuscitate this thread. How is everyone holding up? Are your applications in? I sent the last of mine in yesterday, now I'm just waiting for my letters to come in. Hope all is well with everyone else!

    Dreams

As if it weren't enough that I'm constantly thinking about my applications during my waking hours, I am now experiencing dreams that center totally around my applications and grad school in general. Some of them are pretty normal, like going to class, meeting my cohort, exploring the library, etc. Others are more stressful, like watching the committee vote on my application. Anyone else having dreams like this?
  24. Yes it does. http://www.brown.edu/gradschool/academics-research/masters-programs/history
  25. I believe that Brown, Penn, and Yale all have terminal MA programs in History. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
