    MFA 2012 Decisions!!

Going to SAIC this fall. Good luck to everyone else still deciding!
  2. I'm on the wait list for MICA Mt. Royal and I will ask them to remove my name from the wait list. Hopefully, that will increase other people's chances. Good luck to everyone making decisions. I am 99% going to SAIC. Just awaiting my financial aid package...
  3. Hi everyone, It's my first time posting this year (2012 application season) but I've been lurking. Just didn't wanna post beforehand in fear of jinxing myself during the decisions process. I got the email from SAIC too regarding the Margot Scholarship. I'm a re-applicant, last year I was waitlisted & I did not get that email (I remember others got that email based on last year's forum and they were accepted last year). I don't know if that is the same case this year, I don't really want to overanalyze anymore. I guess we just have to be patient and wait for the mail. Also, I still haven't heard anything from UCLA. I don't really know what to think about that. Maybe they do the rejection notices in waves?
  4. How much does the exam cost? I really wanted to apply to Stanford but was a bit annoyed by the GRE requirement (as it's the only school I know that requires this for an MFA studio program). I'm not worried about the test, it's just the additional cost.
  5. @poorstudent, did you have to take the GRE to be able to apply to Stanford's MFA program?

    CCA

As I read more about the MFA program, the more excited I feel about CCA. The faculty seems amazing. I'm excited to go to the Open Studios on the 10th to see what kind of work people are making. If only it wasn't so darn expensive, I would go there no question. Anyone considering CCA? Any thoughts/opinions on their program? One thing I don't like is how tiny the grad studios are (as I remember from my tour there a couple of years ago).
  7. Just like all of us who were wait listed at RISD last year and didn't even get an interview this year. I saw another poster who was wait listed at MICA last year and didn't get an interview with them this year. I am now thinking it's probably not a good idea to re-apply to a school that wait listed you.
  8. What is taking so long with Cranbrook's Painting department? It seems like everyone's already heard from all the schools they applied to. It's also getting close to the April 15th deadline. Has anyone heard yet?
  9. I'm wondering the same thing. I forgot to ask when they will be notifying us at the interview. When did you interview? Did they say how we will be notified? Phone or email or snail mail?
  10. Congrats, Orangetrousers! I'm happy for you! How much scholarship are they giving you?
  11. Thanks, Jinnee Spell. Good luck to you. I just hate the feeling of being wait listed as I experienced this last year and it was not pretty. Hoping and hoping for nothing in the end. When I tried to ask the school, they can't even tell me any useful information. It's so secretive. Btw, what school do you prefer out of the 3 you applied to?
  12. I wonder if anyone actually received a merit scholarship from CCA? I was really hoping I'd get one. I have a fair amount of loans as well from my undergrad. It's times like these I wish I had rich parents who could just take care of my tuition (or could have done so for undergrad) so I don't have to stress too much about financing my education. Oh well...back to reality now. I have a feeling I will be in debt for the rest of my life if I decide to pursue an MFA now. Oh, I will be at the open house since I live around here.
  13. I received this acceptance letter/packet from CCA too with no mention of any scholarships/funding. I am starting to feel depressed.
  14. I found out through snail mail.
  15. Wait listed @ SAIC Printmedia. This was my top choice Did anyone here get accepted to SAIC Printmedia and may be considering other schools/programs? I'm so tired of being wait listed. Last year, it was RISD. *sigh*

    How old are you?

    25...will be 26 in a few months.
  17. Congrats, Cobalt! I got in too (via webadvisor). Kinda sad about not hearing from RISD though...
  18. Seems like everyone who applied to RISD got this email. I didn't get one of these last year as well. I don't think you're crazy for not deleting email (relating to grad school apps). When I saw this on my inbox, I started to get really hopeful (I wonder if schools/admissions offices just love to do this to us...MICA emailed a list of visiting artists last week), and then I thought it's still too early for RISD to send out interview invites. Last year, they emailed for interviews on the last Friday of Feb. I wish schools would stop emailing about FAFSA reminders, I submitted that on the 2nd week of January...
  19. mySAIC says the same thing (my portfolio wasn't submitted). I asked about this a while ago and they said not to worry, they just didn't update it yet.
  20. It's for printmedia (postmarked 2/9). I'm surprised it got here early since I'm in CA. Maybe painting will arrive in the mail next week?
  21. Got an interview invite at SAIC by mail today. This just made my day
  22. Congrats, inscho. I got one in the mail too!
  23. In reviewing the new list for painting that was posted here, I was just trying to point out that since these rankings do exist, they (whoever these "peers" who make up these rankings) might as well try to be impartial about it, and try to view the schools in a better perspective.
  24. Just to clarify, I think these rankings are interesting to look at, it shows the schools' reputation and influence. Just because I find it interesting to view doesn't prove or mean I applied to schools based solely on rankings. I am not encouraging applicants to apply based solely on rankings either. In over 2 years, I visited schools, did research, looked at faculty work and students work, took into consideration location, financial factors, etc. to find out what school is the best fit for me and my work.
  25. Thanks for sharing this, Chrono Trigger. Just curious, what year did they say these new rankings were done? The site is still showing rankings done in 2008. The painting list is interesting (it kind of looks like the general Fine Arts list). If this is right, there are significant changes: RISD beat Yale in #1, Cranbrook went up to #4 (from #10), Columbia, Temple/Tyler, Hunter, & SFAI went down, CalArts & CCA went up. I kind of see why Hunter would go down in the list, I was surprised it was initially ranked #11. I visited the MFA building a couple of months ago, got to see their MFA show and I was underwhelmed. But I was impressed with the gallery space they have. The building also looks so dingy, though it's in a pretty good location. I visited Columbia too (late last year) and I was underwhelmed with the MFA work too. At least Hunter's tuition is much cheaper. I'm glad to see Cranbrook up in the list, I think their MFA work is very impressive (from their website). And in my opinion, RISD is much better than Yale, especially in painting and art in general. I think SAIC is better than Yale as well (based on MFA work, faculty and facilities). I also don't really understand why CalArts is so high up the list in painting, I thought they don't like painting there (based on a convo I had with a grad coordinator). I thought they were more focused on performance.
