  1. Ooh la la. It was my understanding that our Artist's Statement replaces the Statement of Purpose. Oh shi-
  2. In my statement, I don't talk about the school at all. It's all about my own reasoning for painting. I was under the impression that our Artist's Statements are not to be written like Statements of Purpose. Commence mental meltdown.
  3. While I like your approach, I have had to tone down my intensity for app season. My statement was interpreted as threatening by some and that isn't really the sort of impression I wish to make on a panel of jurors. I'm not interested in assimilating my ideas with preconceived expectations, I just am not certain what the critics are searching for. Is it really just a coin toss? I feel like my work is strong and my statement is well suited, but I have no idea what a roomful of seasoned artists are going to think. I guess I wish to present myself in such a way that allows every viewer to relate in SOME way. Probably just naive of me though. There is no perfect artist after all.
  4. I'm stressing hard over my statement. I've rewritten it at least six times in the past two days. Schools I'm applying to include VCU, USF and GSU, in order of preference. Is anyone familiar with the application process to any of these schools? Is it advised to use the same statement/same work when applying to different schools? I want this process to be over . . .
  5. Hello artists, I posted on here a while back but I've since added new paintings. Please share with me your comments and criticisms. Thank you! http://waynemarcelli.blogspot.com/
  6. Hola people. I intend on applying for the fall 2012 semester and beginning to scramble to get things in order. I guess common practice is to make a list of schools, then convince people to write letters for me. I guess I have a working list going on and it includes the following schools: VCU, GSU, FSU, and LSU. I am a figurative painter and feel like these schools would suit me well. I know everybody loves doting over Yale for painting but I don't want to live in New Haven. Here is a link to my blog along with my statement. Please let me know what you ladies and gents think, especially regarding the statement. Nothing is too sacred, everything is in draft mode. Thanks! http://waynemarcelli.blogspot.com/ edit: a primo financial aid program will be the final selling point to my choosing a program. Pay me to go to school? Sounds good.
  7. I haven't heard much about their program, but I am in SC anyway. I intended to go out of state, as there aren't many great options for me here.
  8. I was wondering if you fine artists could direct me to a painting program that also provides awesome financial aid, including teaching assistantships and/or tuition waivers. I fear that I won't have a chance at continuing my education if I don't find a generous program. Thanks in advance for your help, people.
  9. It's recently come to my attention that my artist statement is weak to say the least. I don't like this, so I'm asking you folks for some assistance. I'm posting my blog where you can find my statement on the left bar: http://waynemarcelli.blogspot.com/ You can ignore the non-figurative paintings on the page; those were mostly just for fun and will not be included in my portfolio. My paintings have a lot to do with relationships, anxiety and fear, though I had such a hard time working that into a statement that I abandoned it altogether. This is what I've come up with, at least the start of it, and by all means feel free to criticize, comment, rewrite or destroy: "This body of work attempts to discard preexisting molds and embrace the unpredictable, dynamic nature of human relationships. The notion that personal relationships are expected to conform to a specific design is not only completely unrealistic, but damages emotional connections between individuals for failure to meet nonsensical standards." I realize it's got leagues to go, but what do you think? Thanks in advance people.
  10. Whoops, I started a new thread posting my blog before noticing this one. Anyway, here's some recent stuff. Criticism is always welcome. http://waynemarcelli.blogspot.com/
  11. I graduated with a BA in may of this year. I'm already itching to get back into school. My concentration is painting, and it is what I will pursue in graduate school. I have images of my work arranged in a blog and was hoping for some feedback from fellow MFA seekers. Also, I have concerns regarding choosing a school. I'm not exactly sure If I'm ready to start applying for FA2011, and I'm not even sure where I want to apply. I personally don't understand killing to get into the top 5 schools, but I understand the appeal. Anywho, here's my link: http://waynemarcelli.blogspot.com/ I haven't updated in a bit, but I suspect I'll do so within the next week. Comments and criticisms welcome, thanks for checking it out. wm
