I am funded at Wisc (guaranteed 5 yrs, $20K), interested in quantitative work in a variety of areas but mostly education as a part of society, comparing within US and to other countries. I just realized that sentence doesn't sound all that coherent. It's been a long (and exciting) day!

I'm following your conversation here... and I have to say, ( and © are very compelling arguments for Stanford! Just thought I'd throw in my two cents... I haven't heard from Berkeley yet but am comparing Stanford to Wisconsin and UCLA, my other options (so far?).

I just got in too!!! Wow, I'm so incredibly excited right now. This was one of my top, top choices!
-
I was just wondering the same thing...and sitting by my phone.

The web site says: "For the last 3 years, on average, we

Yay! I got one too!! If anyone knows about funding...please share!
-
Ooh...tell us what happens! Is it a phone interview?

Good question...the results page says Sociology for both. For the record, I applied to both programs and haven't heard anything yet... :|

I just saw on the results list that two people got interviews for Harvard Soc. I thought that they didn't interview applicants...? Does anyone know what this means - and if there's still a chance of acceptance without an interview? Just curious...

I posted my story on the blog and my stats are in there, if you want to check it out. The blog should be linked from the main page.

Now that I have one acceptance...I can start thinking about funding and other things! Yay! I have three questions...I was hoping that someone on here might have some insight. One stupid question: how are graduate stipends/fellowships taxed? (Does it matter if they are paid out over 12 months or over the academic year only?) One semi-stupid question: do schools ever pitch in with moving expenses? Is that something I can ask about, or is that never done (and therefore just rude)? And one question for more information: how can I find out which schools will cover health and dental for my family (husband and son)? I know that will likely cost me extra, but I know some schools don't offer it at all. Would I have to ask the school personally or is there a web site or other resource that covers this kind of info? Thanks!

Same for me. I haven't heard anything besides that generic email... I know that they got a *ton* of apps this year - near the deadline the server crashed and one of my recommenders had to email over her letter because they couldn't get it back up with the high volume of traffic! Yikes!
-
I got an email too, but my funding info says that I'm being offered five years of support. It doesn't say how much though - I have to wait for a letter from the Center that's offering the funding.
-
I applied here too...still waiting. Mine says the same thing with that "(L)".

I asked about checking if all docs were received, etc, and they said that they would notify me via snail mail if anything was missing. In terms of application status, they said they didn't have anything like that. I double-checked the online app but there are no updates in there. (Not sure if that's helpful, but I thought I'd share my experience with this!)

According to their web site (http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/education/admissions/faq.html#0.1_process): "The admission process is as follows: * Your application data is entered into a central database. You receive an email acknowledgement regarding receipt of your application and fee (this email includes information about your online application status check). * The academic program(s) to which you are applying has a faculty admission committee review your application and materials. * The academic program makes a recommendation for admission to the Graduate School Admissions Office. If you are not selected for admission, the program will notify you. * The academic program to which you have applied will forward supporting materials to the Graduate School's Office of Admissions and Academic Services. * The Graduate School's Office of Admissions and Academic Services reviews your application and materials to ensure that the Graduate School minimum requirements are met. (Includes financial support requirements for International Students) * The Graduate School makes the final admission decision. * Your residency (Wisconsin resident or non-resident) is determined by the Office of the Registrar's Tuition Residency Counselors." So that sounds good....

Me too!!!!!! Do you know if that means we're definitely in and they're just checking out the basic requirements now? I'm sooooo ridiculously excited right now...

I mostly get that from my mother. :|

LOL...my son was due (and born) in April for the same reason. So he'll be 16 months when I start my Ph.D.! It's definitely do-able (at least it's been okay so far while I'm working full-time - in the fall I was taking a class and doing my applications, too) but wow, does it require coffee!

14 (all PhD). It felt semi-absurd to do that many, but I seriously could see myself working with the people and going through the program at any of the 14, so that made it worth the work and expense for me. The bonus is that I can't be too obsessive because it would just be too much work to check them all repeatedly.
