  1. I am not sure about CMU. For some of the school I applied to, like Caltech and UMich, they evaluate domestic students first. I called them a week ago and they told me that they are getting to the international one soon. Usually there are ~50 domestic students applicants, but 200-500 international applicants. So....I ask myself to be patient. Also talked to the admission committee in my school. He told me that this year is just a hard year...sth like the economic is going up but the hiring rate isn't there yet...so there's less funding for grad student. Not sure whether his reasoning is right or not, but there definitely not a good news.
  2. Slorg, Do you know what date Berkeley MSE is hosting the visiting weekend? On the website, it says they will start evaluating the application from Mid-Feb, but then you said they have sent out all the acceptance... Just want to see whether I still have chance for Berkeley... Thanks.
  3. Yes, I contacted Stanford after waiting for 2 weeks. They are expecting to complete the phD evaluation by this week. I am not so sure about UCB and Caltech though. UCB specified in the email that they planned to finish the evaluation by Mid Feb. So I guess there is still some chance there. Caltech I believe they just started the evaluation. anyway, if you are not placed on the wait-list, I believe the result should come this week or early next week for most of the school you applied to. Gluck (to myself as well....)
  4. Stanford's visiting weekend is Feb 17-18 i think. They said they are running late on the evaluation, and should get back to you by the end of this week. Not sure about MIT and UCB though.
  5. Did any one hear back from Stanford MSE PhD (2011)? They posted on the web and emailed saying that the decision will be made from Mid to Late Jan, but I have not hear anything from them. Just wondering whether I am the only one. My guess is that I am on the wait-list, but the visiting weekend is coming up in a week. Applied to MIT, Berkeley, UCSB, Stanford, Caltech, GaTech, Michigan's MSE program. Based on the results page, many of these school have sent out acceptance letter, but I didn't hear from any of them.
  6. Wow. You already received the acceptance letter from MIT-DMSE!? I thought they start sending out acceptance letter around mid-Fed... Man, you just make me even more worry and make the waiting time even more painful. Anyway, base on what I have seen in my school (Purdue), many EE and MSE professor's research interests overlap. Lots of EE graduate student starts to work on the material aspect of electronics in grad school and there are also some prof. in my department have EE background. So I guess you will have no problem working with high impact EE research in MSE. The only thing you should worry about is probably the transition from the EE background to MSE. But I guess if you are good enough to apply and got accepted into such prestige school, you should have no problem picking up new knowledges in materials science.
