  2. Hi all, Has anyone here experienced the qual exams in Stanford EE? I am wondering what it looks like, and how competitive is this exam? Is it only the grade received that affects the result, if someone has publications for instance, does it help to pass? Any experience shared is appreciated.
  3. Hi all, I am admitted to Materials Science and Engineering PhD program in MIT and EE program in Stanford (1 year fellowship). I cannot really decide between these two schools? Is there a difference between the reputations of these schools? After all, MIT is MIT, but there are very attractive research projects going on in Stanford as well, but there comes the qual examination concern. Also, my background is Electrical Engineering, so would it be difficult studying in MSE program in MIT? I appreciate any help and advice about my decision.
  4. Hi all, As you may know, recently there was a nuclear reactor accident in Japan. While being very happy to be admitted to Stanford, I started to have some concerns about California after this event. Do you think this should be taken into account while deciding the graduate school? There are numerous schools in california, would we expect a decrease in the rate students accept offers from these schools?
  5. It is 1 year departmental fellowship: tuition + stipend + insurance
  6. As far as I know UMich is best in VLSI among these schools.
  7. Do you think the qual exam in Stanford is sth I have to consider while making a decision?
  8. Thanks for the reply. My another question is, are those with 1 year fellowship always funded for the rest of PhD in Stanford (at least according to the statistics)?
  9. Hi all, I have been admitted to MIT- Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Stanford-EE with departmental (3 quarter) fellowship. My undergrad major is EE, so I am not sure if choosing Materials Science and Eng. would be a good idea; but some professors have research areas strongly aligned with mine, and MIT is MIT. On the other hand, I am awarded fellowship from Stanford and there are numerous professors I can work with. I appreciate any advice about the decision I have to make.

  12.
