  1. Great suggestions, thank you! An old version of the exam would be a dream come true! @Bones: thank you so much for you offer, I would love someone to look over my translations!
  2. Hi Does anyone have any suggestions for Art History texts in German to practice for my proficiency exam this fall (MA). I am learning on my own, so something with a vetted English translation would be ideal! By the way, I am using April Wilson's German Quickly (so much cheaper than Jannach!) and I highly recommend it, the only drawback being the brevity of the reading selections. Many Thanks!
  3. Anyone wanna claim the Tufts admits on the results page?? I'm one of them and I'm strongly considering accepting...is anyone else??
  4. I am also having trouble with SoP brevity. My template is about 500 words with about 100 extra for fit. One school says a max of 1,000 words, another says a limit of 5 pages (doubles spaced I assume), another says not fewer than 200 words, and, my favorite, "brief". For schools with a max/limit of 1,000 words or 5 pages, is 600 too brief? Obviously if it states 1,000-2,000, than 1,000 is the minimum but for the others with no stated minimum?? I really like my succinct SoP, and I am afraid if I try to double it in size I will lose the flow.
  5. Tweaking the size of my transcript scan on Photoshop so that it was still legible but met the TINY upload limit was a Sisyphean task...something so simple should not have taken so much time... Also, anyone applying to UMass Amherst notice that though they require a writing sample there is absolutely no indication of how this should be sent. That there is nowhere to upload leads me to believe a hard copy should be sent but that is never explicitly stated. Obviously an email is in order but it seems like quite an oversight
  6. Thanks for the replies everyone! I actually got in touch with one of the prof's old graduate students who said contact wasn't necessary. Phew, problem solved.
  7. What do you think the policy is on resending an email after an initial no-response? Should I take the silence as a lack of interest from POIs or consider the possibility my email got lost in the shuffle and resend? This is in regards to my top choice with a professor who has very similar research interests...
  8. V: 167 (98%)-->710 (750-800 estimate) Q: 153 (65%)-->680 (640-740 estimate) AW: 3.5 (how???) Super disappointed in my low verbal score, I really thought I would break 1400. As for my appalling writing score, I am speechless. ETS really loves getting our hopes up...
  9. I hope so too...I have things to do, I want to stop obsessing haha. Good luck everyone!

    Roundup

Hi All, Love this thread! I'm applying to 7 MA programs: UMD, UMAss Amherst, Chapel Hill, Williams, IFA, Tufts and one Museum Education (my absolute backup). I'm interested in late Medieval devotional objects and questions of gender/reception. Took the GRE (thank god indeed!), SoP is in third editing phase and I'm working on my writing sample now. What I have yet to do is contact POIs, a little nervous...trying to speed read articles but I feel under prepared! I've had a bunch of internships, including a couple at the Met but I'm really worried about my languages, does anyone else share this fear? @egomez11: I also feel nervous about by undergraduate institution: I went to a city school (it was all I could afford). My education was fine but it doesn't quite have the weight of an Ivy, but what can you do? @ stilnovista: I've met quite a few people in the Bard program and they are really loving it!
  11. I am sure that is not the case! Tufts (top choice), Williams, IFA, U Amherst, BU, Chapel Hill, College Park We should swap, I would love to hear your thoughts on my draft...this process is unbelievably stressful, isn't it?
  12. Hi All, anyone want to do an exchange? I'm applying to MA Medieval Art History programs! Thanks!
  13. I'm currently not in school but I did find an older edition at the Watson Library! It's a pity I can't get a personal copy though... Thank you for your help!
