I took the new GRE last year. 157 verbal, 73% below. 153 quant, 56% below. 4.5 writing, 73% below, I have a 3.7 GPA and a pretty good CV for an undergrad, but I am wondering how much the GRE plays a part in the admissions/assistantship offering process. How important does a GRE score like mine play in my chances? Should I take it again? I didn't prepare at all last time. Thanks!

How do universities view having a no score on one section? Do people do this often?

Estimate: Q- 650-750 V- 530-630 Combined: 1180-1380 Scores: Q- 153 65% V- 157 77% AW- 4.5, 72% Edit: 1240 is my combined in the old score according to the concordance table. I took the test October 4th. Kind of in shock that 4.5 has that high of a percent below... It's a crappy score. Also my verbal ended up being higher than my quantitative??? What???? Not very pleased, but it is what it is.

Ughhhhhhhh. Should we just go to bed and check in the morning?

Okay, cool! My estimate wasn't too far off then. Hopefully my scores will show up tonight so I can see if I made the cut...

From what I've been told by professors, if you break 300-310 in your combined score, you'll be fine for most schools. This may just be within my field and also in the southern US, but I had a number of professors tell me this when I asked. I do think 320 is high.

I'm doing the same thing. It's getting obnoxious. haha. I just need to see my scores so that I can go back out into the world and have a normal life.

I'm looking at the concordance chart, and that seems about right. If my schools required a 1200, then I should probably be trying for a minimum of 155 in the two subject areas, I guess. It's difficult to understand given the different things I'm reading from different people's posts, but the concordance chart is from ETS, so I guess the coorelation chart there is probably going to be the most dependable.

Have you gotten your scores yet? If so when did they show up? Are they higher or lower than what you estimated from the range you received on test day? I'm anxiously hitting refresh, just wanted to hear if anyone had gotten their scores yet. I think they will show up by tonight.

That verbal score is good. I wouldn't stress about it honestly. That's a very strong verbal score in my opinion.
