Hi friends, I’m afraid this is my last post for this cycle as I got my last rejection. I’m feeling very discouraged, but hopeful at the same time. I turned 24 this year and took two years after undergrad to apply again, so this is my second cycle. I will say that I have had many a revelation this time around in terms of fine tuning my voice as a poet. I have much to work on and read, and most of all, I haven’t really submitted anything for publication. I am wanting to dedicate this next year to doing just that and writing. for any of you who might be my age or older, did you find that it does truly take time to get into a fully funded MFA? The creeping doubt and anxiety is saying that I will never get a shot at it, but I know this is just my blues talking. good luck and congrats to all who already have offers and acceptances/waitlists. Is this true for poetry?

This is helpful, sometimes I forget that I maybe am young ??? lol. That sounds dumb but I guess I feel older than I am due to certain experiences/circumstances. Everyone’s advice was super helpful though in saying that maybe paying for an MFA isn’t a great idea. I might even just look for some job opportunities having to do with creative writing specifically to get some more peer review and experience in that regard. I appreciate this.

I’m so down bad, I applied to 5 schools total honestly bc I didn’t want to move to the east coast (I help my family financially and have young sisters who I want to stay by) so I applied all to Pacific Northwest schools. Got rejected from 3, and 1 acceptance from a partially funded school (a 10k fellowship, but tuition is like 50k bc it’s a private school…) and I’m waiting on my last school. I know I could wait another cycle but I also am one of those people who thinks money comes and goes lol and it’s worth the trouble, but I’m also 24 years old and naive at times so I need advice. I feel like I worked my ass off the past two gap years that I took after getting rejected across the board right out of undergrad, so I’m feeling sort of defeated. Maybe I’m a brat because I got 1 acceptance and I should be content w that, but I’m struggling to accept the financial situation. I’m low income and first gen so fml!!!!

I got rejected from U of Oregon dang it!! My first acceptance was from University of San Fran but it’s only partially funded so I’m really hoping I hear back from my other two schools soon…ah

Thank you for the clarification!! My fingers are crossed. So sad because two years ago, when I first applied out of undergrad, it was between myself and another person on waitlist for the final spot. So I was really hoping I would at least get on the waitlist again this year. An acceptance is probably a long shot at this point lol.

Hey everyone!! I just got my first MFA acceptance to a school that is close to family and I’m v excited but my top is UCI—have we seen any movement with this school? Or does anyone know a potential timeline for when they begin calling or notifying for poetry ?

so weird to be on here when I just used to stalk this forum once I first applied two years ago…hahaha. Anyway, I’m a second time applicant applying for MFAs in poetry for UCI, university of San Francisco, university of Oregon, Oregon state, and UW. So nervous but never been prouder of what I’ve submitted. I got an interview with UCI the first time I applied but they accepted someone else; really hoping and praying I get in this time!!! Fingers crossed and good luck y’all <33
