  1. What is this garbage I keep hearing about women having a hard time? Look at any psych dept. there is usually a 50/50 split or better for women. How many racial minorities do you see?
  2. I have to say, you are a bad employee. It is your job to get extra ranch/mayo/whatever. Who are they supposed to ask? You, as the low level employee. Your problem is that you think you are too good for this kind of work, which is why you are going to graduate school. This is my problem as well. In order to really emphasize my point, I'll restate it: It is your job to serve the customers. You are the bottom level employee.
  3. This post bothered me. Given: You are attempting to earn a PhD in a top 20 program You are attempting to earn a PhD in Management/OB "Yes, I'm looking at going into industry, although I do enjoy the research work that a PhD entails" -although I do enjoy research will not be nearly enough to cut it. You must live and breath your discipline in a highly abstract and critical way. " In my field, though, a lot of jobs require a PhD as a minimum qualification" -I don't believe this. Not at all. PhD is an academic research degree. It has very little to do with practice (and the little it does is indirectly) " it's an applied subdiscipline of psych" Yes, thank you.
  4. Depends, what journals are you published in? E.g. if you are applying to management and have, let's say, a publication in JPSP and one in OBHDP, you could make it somewhere in the top 30. I am always skeptical when individuals without PhDs tout publications. The journal matters much more than the simple fact.
  5. I'm very surprised this response came from Warrington. So much so that I am not sure that I believe you. MBA has absolutely nothing to do with PhD. A PhD is an academic research degree, IT IS NOT FOR BECOMING A BUSINESSMAN/WOMAN. Almost no respectable academic has an MBA, because it would have been a huge waste of time and money. In addition, although an MBA might be a slight positive, the first gut reaction from academics would be "why did this candidate waste time getting a professional degree? are they sure they want to become scientific researchers?"
