  1. I'm confused by all the people who are done applying already: is there any advantage to getting materials in weeks before the deadline? I still have 4 apps to finish for Feb 1st deadlines, and am totally not stressed about it, but now worried because everyone else seems done.
  2. Cornell definitely interviews shortlisted candidates. Not sure about Penn.
  3. wait, but the purchase deadline isn't until feb 1st--i'm applying there too. how could someone have an interview there already??
  4. I make mixed media/ print based work, as well as some sculptural and installation pieces. here's a link to my (in progress) portfolio site: http://lisadietrich.carbonmade.com/
  5. Hunter is not a community college--it's part of the City University of New York system (CUNY)--it's a college in that system. very good school, very well regarded. Brooklyn College, Queens College and City College are also part of this system, all have great MFA programs. If you like Hunter, you should apply--and you should be proud if you get in: I hear it's quite competitive. Good luck, L
  6. Hi, I'm in the same boat: 27, applying to 8+ schools (still deciding about a few with Feb deadlines) and crossing all fingers and toes--however, I've been telling myself (and will therefore tell you) that 27 is NOT OLD! Even if we don't get in anywhere this year, there is still time. Many people begin an MFA program in their early 30s, even, and are probably better off for the extra life experience they bring to such an intense immersion. My top choices are Cornell Carnegie Mellon VCU Purchase also applying to Rutgers Brooklyn College Penn Design Deciding about SUNY Stony Brook Queens College U Delaware Where else did you apply, and what kind of work do you make? Best of luck!! L
  7. Hi, I'm looking at several of those as well (Purchase, Queens College, UDel). I nixed New Paltz because they don't give private studios to Printmaking MFAs. I'd love to hear more about Queens and UDel, if you've learned more--they're new on my list and both 'maybes' as of now. Purchase is great--I really enjoyed my visit there, it's a small program, close to NYC and (for me, because I'm a NY state resident) very affordable. Please share anything new that you've learned in the meantime!
  8. Hi, I'm in the process of final-finalizing my list for MFA Studio art applications. I'm a printmaker/ mixed media/ sculpture person, looking for a small, multi-disciplinary program that gives teaching experience, funding and has a strong critical theory component. As an added filter, I'm looking for programs that allow MFA students to take academic classes, and that offer German studies (I'm German and my work deals largely with my heritage and German history). I'm going for a total of 8 schools. Right now, these programs are 'for sures:' Cornell Carnegie Mellon VCU SUNY Purchase UPenn CUNY Brooklyn College These are maybes: SUNY Stony Brook Rutgers UDelaware CUNY Queens College CUNY City College Any feedback on any of those, particularly the 'maybes'? Also, would love to see other's lists. Thanks in advance! Lisa
