I doubt professors would read it. Berkeley and Michigan usually receive millions of documents to review. -
Glad to hear that there is someone who has similar experiences. One of mine gave birth to a baby and now is taking leave to take care of the baby. She has been very responsive and just submitted every letter, though. I really appreciate her efforts.

I noticed 2 fatal errors in my SOP for Columbia. The system seemed to allow me to upload a revised one. After revising my SOP and uploading the revised one, it now appears to have received two of my SOPs, with the later one titled "updated ***". Hopefully only the updated version gets to the committee.

Worry not. I noticed your question to the OSU professor. Austin has the same policy. Nevertheless, they offer grace periods for our letter writers I believe.

OMG To all those who are submitting to Northwestern, you guys basically scared the *** out of me. The deadline is not even close guys:)
-
Professor, thank you for the information. I have another question. I sent my GRE scores in mid-October, but only created my application accounts for most programs in late October. Is it fine? Or you think schools might find it hard to match my profiles with the scores that were delivered to them early?

Guys, everyone in this post, I would like to draw everybody's attention to this. I have not found any program that asks applicants what programs they apply to, but only programs that ask us what OTHER programs we apply to. So it looks like there is no ranking issue. Say, school A asks me what other programs I am applying to, of course, any sensible answer will not include the name of A. This is because school A asks what OTHER programs I am applying to. What do you guys think?

Do all schools accept electronic transcripts?

Do all schools accept electronic transcripts?
jazzrap replied to jazzrap's topic in Political Science Forum
Yes. I will send the rotated scanned copies instead of the neat electronic copies which look much better. Although another response to this post suggests that electronic copies are fine, I just don't want to take risks. Hope schools in the future will all adopt the policy of accepting electronic transcripts. It will make life much easier for paranoid people like me. -
Do all schools accept electronic transcripts?

Thank you:) But now I realized that after I rotated it it would not appear as modified. I rotated on a website called rotate PDF or something like that. So I was really wondering if they have an detector that can immediately screen the PDF and be like "BEEP!! MODIFICATION DETECTED" And then they would just throw the profiles into trash can. I am too paranoid. -
Guys, I am having troubles scanning transcripts. The PDF the scanner emailed me always displayed my transcripts sideways. Meanwhile, I have a really neat official electronic transcript. Should I upload the electronic transcript instead of the manually scanned transcript (which is of course "electronic" too)? While some schools claim that they accept "electronic transcript", many others require only "scanned" transcripts" (they did not mention anything about "electronic transcript"). I wonder if these other schools would accept electronic transcripts as well. Of course, there are tools to rotate your PDF and save it. However, the rotated PDF will appear as "modified". I don't want those who read my stuff to have an impression that my transcripts have been "modified". So many unnecessary troubles. I wish this process could end right now.

you made me more nervous now:)
-
You wish. For myself at least, I will visit this site even more frequently because people are going to ask about whether their GRE scores or transcripts have been received. I am a super paranoid person:)
-
You are right. They ask applicants to apply for either Polisci OR econ and check the PE option in their application. Plus, I am not thinking very hard about POIs. For Michigan, e.g., though I am going to do quant-heavy or at least mixed-method things, all my POIs are qualitative researchers. Let's see:)
-
OP, I can't give you any advice on particular POIs. However, I noticed that you are interested substantive IPE-related stuff that employs formal theory? If that is the case, I suggest replacing Princeton with Princeton PE, because that's where the formal theorists and political economists are. And I suspect (imho) that formal theorists will only sit on the admission committee for the PE program, so if you think your profile may impress formal theorists, then go for Princeton PE.

Okay. SORRY for over-speculating. I guess I was referring to the same person as you are. That person went to a non-Top 5, so I thought he must have not got into a top 5. Now I guess you pointed out the true story. Of course, the program that person went to, if we were indeed referring to the same person, is almost as good as a top 5. Sorry guys, really bad reply on my part.

I would say trying your best to make yourself the best candidate for Notre Dame. It is a top-10 program in political theory, and also houses wonderful scholars of Latin America. The Kellogg Institute at Notre Dame is a leading center for studies of Latin America in particular and democratization and development in general. WARNING: I am not sure if Notre Dame has "Latin Americanists" who work on political theory. Most of them are comparativits who do empirically-oriented political science.
