I believe UCLA, Madison, UCSD, and Columbia are all making offers before the 31st. For Columbia, I think a few lucky people will get phone calls before February, while most have to wait until the first or second week in February.

Happy New Year everyone:) I do have one question though: do we submit the mid-year grades? Some schools have such an optional item. I did not get an A for one class (theology), although I know it has little to do with my field.

Don't say anything bad about the GRE score, unless it is extremely low and you have to address it.

Thank you!

Has anyone of your letter writers received error messages while uploading letters? One of my letter writers got a couple of messages when uploading letters to a few schools. I think it is because some schools use the same online system so one needs to close the browser and restart it to jump from one school to another when uploading letters. Eventually, she/he succeeded. And it appears on his/her screen and on my screen that the letter is "received". HOWEVER, today I just realized that Wisconsin still has not received his/her letter yet. I emailed him/her directly, who later tried three times with three browsers, and it still refused to work. I am going to call Wisconsin tomorrow. This is not the main thing. My worst nightmare would be: since he/she encountered errors in submitting letters and succeeded in later attempts, both he/she and I would really believe that the letter is "received", while it actually is still not received. This would be catastrophic, because we wouldn't know the letter is not received by the committee. Hopefully I am just over-thinking.

Gonna submit 4 tonight. 1 tomorrow.

Still haven't turned in yet

No back up plans really. Columbia's QMSS program has a late deadline. It is funny that when I applied to its PhD program, I did not choose to select QMSS as my secondary choice because I wanted to show determination. Stupid ideas lol.
-
I hope it doesn't affect our applications. Well, we just have to forget these facts and focus on applications:)

Thanks!

Thanks. I am writing for the department as a whole. And I was not worried about them leaving, but rather them not going to sit on admissions committees. Now I will just stop worrying:) No point stressing over this
-
Feel demoralized that numerous POIs of mine will not serve on admission committees. All on leave. My question is: should I still stress that I and this particular professor have similar research interests in my SOP or not? Of course, I will mention more than four names. However, do you think I should still list his/her name first?

Competitive Applicant at IR schools?

overall GPA? -
http://www.poliscirumors.com/wiki.php They have just made an offer, but it depends on if the guy/girl will accept it
-
So it looks like you are done with applications Congrats
-
I think it will come down to how many of the admitted people are working or are studying in master programs or as undergrads
-
I agree with you.
-
This is encouraging. Thanks, Yue! I heard they are admitting fewer people (in general), though. Is this true?
-
Hi Professor, Thanks so much for the response. I feel relieved now. Thank you!
-
Ok I am going to respond something irrelevant. But I am just so depressed that I had two typos in my last paragraph to UCLA. Missing two apostrophes. The errors look obvious. If I was gonna say I love Coffee's research, it now reads "I love Coffees research". Two errors like that. UCLA has the methods I want to employ and the substance I want to study. But these two errors look a little too obvious. It is worse than grammar mistakes, or spelling.

There is no such a thing as "not at all". IMHO, maybe one or two of the 35 students they admit could be international students. Of course, these international students would be superbly spectacular.
-
I gotcha. I am mainly concerned with admissions, so naively thinking that even if I have to apply for funding separately in my second year, there must be some ways through which I can cope with it. Good luck on UCSD. Are you applying to the IRPS or just political science?
-
Hopefully they won't mind missing two apostrophes, Sigh. Concerning UCSD, I am applying to it as an international applicant as well. If you think Berkeley's funding is an issue, then UCSD is much worse.
-
Toni I thought you meant UCSD. It scared the heck out of me.

Three typos to Columbia, two to UCLA. How does that mistake sound?
