  1. Hi everyone, I’m trying to get a sense of whether my profile would allow me to aim higher in US philosophy PhD applications. My undergraduate GPA was only 2.37, mainly due to some personal medical issues, and my degree was not in philosophy. Since then, I’ve completed two philosophy master’s degrees, one from continental Europe and one from the UK,and both convert to GPAs of about 3.7 or higher. This cycle I applied to only four US programs, none of them top-ranked, with the highest being Utah, and so far I’ve received an offer from a public university. I’m wondering whether this profile could realistically be competitive for higher-ranked programs or if my strategy of applying selectively was reasonable. How do people generally view low undergrad GPAs when there is strong graduate work, and is it worth trying to “aim higher” in future cycles? Any experiences or insights from people familiar with similar cases would be greatly appreciated.
