  1. I like messenger bags, but have yet to buy one for fall semester. I've done some searching to find out the best bag to buy though. I've heard good things about Timbuk2 bags, even though they can be pricey, especially when you customize the colors from their website. I've also heard Crumpler bags, supposedly similar to Timbuk2. I read that Timbuk2 bags are made better though.
  2. I was accepted for Fall into Columbian college at GW but actually took my first course during the summer 1 session in May. My advisor mentioned that students (maybe not all, might depend on major, etc? dunno) are allowed to take classes beginning the semester before they were accepted. Meaning, if you were admitted in fall, you can take summer classes. Although, i'm not sure if that works the same way between fall and spring semesters. about half of my classmates (only 12 total) during that one summer course lived in Nova, most near the Rosslyn area since it's so close by metro. I commute to Foggy Bottom from Rockville (about a 40min metro ride, w/ a switch at metro center). I really wish they'd hurry up and offer a cheaper student discount for metro. It would make SO much sense since there are 3 universities ON metro lines (American, UDC, GWU) - oh, even Howard U. I dont even know if that's all of them! Anyway, just thought i'd say "I agree with you!"
  3. I just got a new macbook pro 13" mainly for transporting to class in the fall. I'm coming from a massive 17" widescreen Dell laptop that entirely too huge and definitely not as easy to transport. The macbook pro only weighs about 4.5lbs and has a 6-7hour battery, so it doesn't add as much weight as other laptop batteries. It's definitely the best purchase i've made regarding computers. It's fantastic!
  4. I won't be attending the Elliott School and dont know a thing about it, but i'll be attending GWU in the fall for Forensic Science! =) Just thought i'd say hello!
  5. w00t!! =) =) =) Totally excited and can't wait to start classes!
  6. My bf graduated from VT with his undergrad degree in english a few years ago. If you have more questions, i'll be glad to see if he has any input. Couple quick things from him though - He says he's heard that it's supposed to be a pretty good program. He also said that Giovanni isn't a very good teacher. He got the most out of Bob Hicok, who primarily taught poetry was getting into fiction when he left. I know he-said, she-said's aren't necessarily reliable, i just thought i'd comment since it doesn't look like many other have. Good luck.

    GWU

Anyone else waiting to hear from GWU or know how long they typically take to send responses? I literally just submitted my application like 3 days ago and i know it's going to be a while, but i'm getting antsy already. Especially after reading through all these darn posts that make me think about it even more. This website has been pretty helpful so far, but i think i might have to abandon it for a little while til i get my response -- or at least get a little closer to when i should be getting it.
  8. So it would look as if the 'missed' date wasn't scheduled at all?
  9. As unfortunate as this may sound, what would the schools see if someone were to not show up for their scheduled GRE testing time? Would they see anything at all? Please, if you have any idea, answer my question. I dont want anyone saying how bad it is to not show up or to waste the money, blah, blah. I know all of this already and am just wondering if anything would be visible on the GRE report should someone miss their scheduled time. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for your replies. As far as the comments if i'm ready or if grad school is right for me, that is not one of my concerns. I know what will be expected of me as a graduate student and am ready to take that leap. I dont have any doubt that 'grad school isn't for me.' I just seem to do crappy on standardized tests. I know that some people use that as an excuse, but i really feel that even after studying that i dont do as well as i can. I took my SAT's years ago. I took them twice, doing a little worse the second time than the first. I have this gut feeling that if i were to take the GRE again, that the same would result. I am very, very excited to be starting my grad classes in forensics. I've looked at the courses and their descriptions and i absolutely cant wait to learn more about them than I already know. I've also met the professors that teach some of the classes that i'd be taking as well as the advisor in my chosen concentration. So, yes, I know that i have low GRE scores and an "ehhh" overall average for my BS (forgot to mention a 3.7 gpa for my Associate's) but with my internship experience, work experience, hopefully killer recommendation letter and awesome sop -- has anyone else been in the same situation? I'm pretty sure that I read if i were to cancel my scores during the test, that my school would be able to see that i canceled them. Would that look worse than having only taken the GRE once and it being low? I would think that two low scores would be worse than taking it once or even canceling my scores. I just dont know. And i dont really know how to ask my contacts at GWU about this without it making myself look worse. I'm open to ideas ...
  11. I just found this site as i'm frantically searching google for some light on my GRE issue. I've taken the GRE once already and am scheduled to take it again in 3 days. My first scores were pretty bad. Bad enough for me not to want to share them with the entire gradcafe, but, I did get a 4.5 on the writing section which isn't absolutely horrible. My dilemma is this: I'm sure if i were to cancel my gre scores at the end of the test, that it will still be on record that I took the test but the scores simply wont be revealed. I'm applying to George Washington in a few weeks for fall admission. Which would look worse: only taking the gre once and doing poorly on it (except writing) or taking the test twice and both being low scores (with the second score potentially being lower than the first)? I've tried to study, even took a Kaplan class about 6 months ago but i waited too long after the class, telling myself i would study (which i did, some) and complete let life get in the way of studying for this completely retarded test that i dont agree with. And yes, I know that's not the point. I had an undergrad gpa of 3.1 which is mediocre, but since i graduated undergrad, i now have about a year and a half of valuable experience that will help me, plus have two previous internships which are also partially related to what i'm applying for. I am also getting one of my scientific directors at my lab job to write a letter of recommendation for me, which i think will be written very well and be beneficial. I need a little advice. Anyone know how George Washington values their GRE scores along with the gpa, paid work experience, internships, recommendation letters, etc? Thanks for reading.
