  1. HA. Round three for me as well, April 1st was when I got the rejection letter last year.
  2. I am not 100% on this, but just in program applied for in Slideroom, mine just says New Genres. Instead of New Genres MFA? BC apparently that was the program I applied for. I just have to laugh at myself at this point.
  3. Well, my Columbia app now says I applied to New Genres? WHY! I applied to painting! It just switched me? Or, I might be an idiot. Well, no MFA after my name so there we have it. I actually would rather it be my fault... Moving right along! Best of luck to all who have Columbia interviews!
  4. Hahaha. Very clever! Only a month to go and this part of the process will all be over. Then the conversation will move from acceptances to funding.
  5. yes, yes, UCLA has no interviews. You are correct!
  6. Nothing from UCLA on my end, I think we have a few weeks still on that one?
  7. YES! Northwestern interview for March 1st. Just got an email. There is an open house thing the next day so I guess Ill be meeting some of you who are also interviewing!
  8. No problem. Also, you are thinking SAIC performance, right? I looked at your portfolio, you should work with Nick Cave for sure!
  9. I am obviously comfortable being the jerk who harasses the poor administrative staff at every place I applied... I dont know if this has been posted, but SURPRISE! UCLA is sending out Mid-March. I forgot to ask if by mail or email, I would put my money on mail mail. So basically that is non-information and why I forgot to post it with the USC info and I apologize if that is redundant. I'm going to start buying booze for a drinking game called "mid-march". The game is: you drink when its "mid-march".
  10. I was told that the interviews are *usually* the 1st week of March. Since they are mostly skype/phone I would assume that there will not be advanced notice bc they dont expect you to fly down? there are several active people on this thing who have applied to SC, when they know you will know. haha. Did anyone go to the Open House? I think I have asked this already but I know they get really blunt. I couldn't make it out and I would love to know. I see you are applying to Irvine! Kevin Appel is absolutely amazing. If i was a painter's painter I would have applied just for him!
  11. All interested in USC: there will be a phone/skype interview in early March for the final and near finalists. All other decisions will be snail mailed by mid March.
  12. Just FYI mine came as a letter from painting, not sculpture, so there might be departmental discrepancies. I also got my letter as early as I did bc I live in the city, obviously. since its snail mail and a crazy storm... I would say just call them on Monday and ask when you should expect to hear if invited to interview since you are out of state??
  13. SAIC interview! Spoke to UCLA today and we should know mid-March, this may be redundant to some.
  14. WOW, how generous! Thank you everyone! Now I am regretting not applying to some of these programs.
  15. Ha. Yes. I'll take Slideroom any day. valid points. There is something to be said for limiting the variables, I really just find it so fascinating how different each programs/department functions. And while 50-60% do get cut from most of these interviews, its more like "do we want to work with this person, and are they really ready to engage in this conversation", right? Weed out the people who are able to mimic contemporary postures, I would think. Some programs can do it without interviews. I think that is pretty remarkable, actually. (I just didn't know until today UCLA didn't do interviews) Congrats on Yale! Hopefully since you are in NY taking your work up wont be too much of a hassle.
  16. If you are talking about Columbia, then it is BC of some extension(s) that were granted. Reasons were not given to me today, I assume some personal circumstances for an individual? Either way, the same rules apply for applying to multiple programs (a separate application including the $110 fee for which the deadline has passed). Sigh. I asked, I was hopeful.
  17. I called Columbia today and they said to expect calls for interviews "no earlier" than the 1st week in march. And from the past forums it seems that the rejections typically comes at the start of april. I have read in here that UCLA doesn't do interviews--anyone else confused by them? No recs, no interviews, terrible image upload system? Does anyone know about USC interviews? I guess the more I know about when people hear about interviews the earlier I know about the rejection. haha. Congrats to all interviews and acceptances!!
  18. thank you, that makes a lot of sense.
  19. thanks paintcutter for your generosity!
  20. Hey! thanks for being so generous with your information. I'm at SAIC undergrad painting and cant say enough good things about the grad program. Good Luck!
  21. I agree that you need to be competent in talking about your practice. Where did you hear that about recs? I guess I am operating on misinformation! haha.
  22. Statement: It depends on your work and the application. But, you will most likely have to write different versions of the statements for each app. If you are applying to Yale then look at the guidelines set there (which is basically everything about you in 500 words) and use that as a template? I am really overwhelmed by this myself, but honestly, most are going to put portfolio and recs above your personal statement. Personal statements I think are only useful to weed out people who have no business applying to MFA programs if their portfolio hasn't done so already. SO I am sure you are fine and just focus on the work itself. Honestly, most statements sound alike anyway. Or that is what I am telling myself.
  23. You should also think about the Bay Area (Berkley, Stanford). Something about the technical skill in these makes me think of the Bay Area as a good place to be for you.
