For me, the whole process of the application is like a relationship. There are hundreds of reasons why people decided to apply for graduate schools. It can be for better job, passion abt one area;chage a life style; change a city to live....some of us have school or area in mind while others not(&&there are hundreds of reasons u want a new relationship: u unfortunately had a bad one; want to start a new life style; want to have a different one...some have idea who the significant other would be, or look like in mind while others do not.&&) you then roll up your sleeves and start to prepare for your application. U try to get better QPA, fight to deadth for GRE, ask for big name professors or professors who know u well to write recemmondation for you, think of research topic and plan, Writing sample, oh! And personal statement! (&&you start to make yourself ready in all aspects. You go to gym and exercise to have better figures, you ask friends or whoever to tell him/her that you are the best; you tell her you want to travle around the world with him/her, you sometimes are required to tell or show him/her what did you do to the ex; oh! And you are good at cooking and is passionate about gardening) you then have to compete with a lot of other applicants, who might have similar scores or experience. And they are better or worse than u in this or that. (&&the more popular he/she is, the more competetive it would be. Your arrivals might be taller than you, but not as humerous as you.) schools starts the decision. They sort of have their criteria, mmmm...but sometimes not always the case. They ask for "fit". (yea, from his/ her ex, I know that he/she like fit peolle with brown eyes. He/she also said they like caring and sweet people. But there are always exceptional. They look for the one suit them perfectly.) admission decision is made. You are accepted! (hooray!!if my top choose say yes to me, I will be happy forever!) admission decision is made. You are rejected and you want to know why and who are accepted.(grrrr... He/she chose another guy!!who the hell is him/her??!!why he is Breyer than me!!!! Tell me why!!!!) admission decision is made. You are rejected and u move on--try again or forget about it (what the heck??!! Fine! I wait for a while and try again, or....screw him/her!!) Yay!!! I spent another 30 minutes while I was waiting!! O.o good luck everyone!!

i guess very few people they contacted? only 2 threads so far.....since i got no email or call yet. (i applied for PhD in Public Policy and so believe that i gave a shot!) grrrrr....so very nervous these days, getting up so early to check my email, and having phone with me all the time. i also read from last year threads, not all phd candidates are informed by call. so i am expecting that my acceptance will come in email THESE DAYS!!! UGHHH!!!

What are you going to do immediately after you read that rejection letter?
2011fall replied to everygirl's question in Questions and Answers
i checked the emails before went to work, as usual. and after i got to the office (like 25 or 30 minutes later), an email directing me to the application page was there. Sort of guessing that i would not get in for unknown reasons, and it turned out to be the case. I just emailed my fiance: '****(school name) rejected' in the title. and kept working for whole day, no drink, nothing special happened. A few days later, the grieving feeling started to overwhelm me. and I had been an unhappy person until today. -
i was just so surprised that this professor even asked this question....

whoo!! Thanks guys! love the links provided above! several thoughts: 1. now i understand how annoying it is to ask for the progress. and I would appreciate schools take it so seriously for all the applicants. (though i did not apply for this program). therefore. NO EMAILING admission committee!! 2. now i understand how important the writing sample is. I was thinking, i wish i read this before the application submission. I might do better on this next time (damn it!! i do not want to do all of this again !!) so wish all of us get in one! ))

same here...and i applied for 6. Got rejection from the one which i put the most attention. So what i do now is: Save the grieve now, release and vent the sadness until i had all the results. (sometime i felt it silly that one moment you were crying and freaking out, and the second moment, you got the acceptance!!) so i just save my feeling now. and wait. just wait. wait only. oh~~and i was telling myself, the 'quote' for this week is done, will have one result for one week from now on. So i am pretty much calm now. waiting for the next week's 'quote' and hope it will be a good news.

Predicting University results with Tarot cards
2011fall replied to DoubleHelix's topic in Waiting it Out
That's all i need to provide?? sounds very simple. but i want to give it a try! one university per subject....hard to choose...mmm....will i get into University of Chicago? this is not my dream school, not one of the top or least several schools. But just the one which is always quiet and i mostly did not pay as much attention as others. Do not know why to choose this one...(before i change my mind, gonna send this out!) Bit of reluctant to ask for my dream school. heheh...Thanks!!! -

Unless you strongly persuade them why you change your academic direction and what you want to achieve with the two degrees (accounting and MPP). i would say. -

Hi Harriser, thanks for this update! i should have read this before i sent email to the admission director in Sanford...hahah~~anyway. I have been thinking of asking him and read some posters on the forum to see if I should contact him. I got pushed out to do so this morning when i read some one from the result is shortlisted. I did not get the interview nor anything. I am not saying that i will be one of those top applicants. But your post here surely release me. Let's wait it out )) I wish everyone good luck!!! ( i will post whatever he replied IF i heard back from him) Cheers! -

it is really better to know the time line...relaxed a bit on this.. thanks!! -
just found out that someone from 'result' got email interview by PhD of public policy from Duke Sanford on 26 January (or 23 Jan??)........but i did not.....is this a bad sign???? grrrr....alright, yeah, i am getting panic. I have almost been too busy to think about the admission results....but....now i am getting nervous and thinking of deleting one school on my list already... anyone else got any interview (phone, email or whatever news) or news for these schools? --Chicago,NYU,Maryland and George Washington--phd in public policy? or any idea if they normally had interviews?? i hope there won't be any interview. Just be quick--either kill me or let me go to the heaven. Simple as it is!

Hi Guys, i have double checked the email contains MYFAID, and on KSG's website provided by IdealThink(thanks for this!!), and other pages and now i am pretty much sure that as an applicant or potential PhD candidate, no need to submit separate fellowship. Also in the email regarding MYFAID, it says '**For Masters applicants, please refer to the section below regarding financial aid if you would like to be considered for any financial need- or merit-based assistance.** Thanks though for giving me links and remind me on this )) Cheers!!
-
grrrr...i totally missed this out....are you talking about all applicants to HKS? I applied for PhD program, shall i submit or apply for the fellowship as well?? Cheers!
-
i agree. you will be fine!! good luck!!

Hey, Me here!! i applied for Public Policy as well. Applied for Maryland as well )) GM was on my original list, but i dropped off the last minutes...though i had everything ready. Since its interest area does not perfectly fits mine. I focus on International development. Later i heard GM's funding was not as generous as most schools. But it is a great school that a lot of beauties there you only applied for 2 programs? i applied for 6...actually not many choices to perfectly fits the research area
-
i think you both are accepted!! Otherwise they are so bad to give this kind of misleading information, I also applied. But PhD program. Have heard nothing yet. Cheers and good Luck!!
-
same here. but i applied for the phd in Public Policy. no way to worry or do anything now. just wait.
