Social/personality profs who study political ideology?
SharperImage replied to lawgrad's topic in Psychology Forum
Yeah, also check this page out on the ISPP site; it'll give you an idea of specific programs that are oriented toward this kind of research...and there aren't too many (just yet): http://ispp.org/programs.html Send me a PM if you have any specific questions. I applied to Irvine's Pol Psych program, and I have some general knowledge regarding this field of study and professors that focus on this sort of thing. As the previous poster touched on, the Irvine program program is offered through the Political Science department, not the Psych department. -
Yeah, I haven't heard from UChicago either. I know that they are typically lateĀ® in notifying applicants, but I'm not certain that they have an interview weekend.
-
Yeah, I'll be the one with the knitted Big Bird sweater on, pink nail polish and green Airwalks. I'll save a seat for you right next to me...hope you done mind the smell of patchouli.

Anyone else going to Boulder this weekend?? PM me if so. Otherwise, good luck to all of those still waiting on other schools.
-
Thanks, dirkduck. That was very helpful information. Does anyone else have any thoughts/opinions on Boulder? I've heard mostly good things, so I'm curious to hear anything (particularly negative) else about the area.

When did the USC offers go out? I was notified about 2 weeks ago by my poi that final decisions would not be made for several weeks. I was under the impression that if I was out, he would have just come out and said it... Ruh roh.
-
Congrats on WUSTL.. I applied to USC's Social concentration, but haven't heard back. I emailed my POI and posted something about this about a week ago--he said decisions would not be made for "several weeks" due to the undetermined funding situation. In other words, sit tight! Hope this helps.

It seems quite apparent that this isn't the hottest school to speak of on the forum, but does anyone have any info on Irvine? It's the only polisci program to which I've applied, mostly due to the atypical focus (political psychology). Good luck to all of the other posters on hearing results soon!

Anyone here apply to UChicago? I was informed that the adcom would be meeting toward the end of last week, but haven't heard anything nor seen any results postings. I'm not certain that I'll still be a fully functional graduate student after the massive amount of damage that has been inflicted upon my brain and ego throughout this process.

Has anyone else been invited to interview weekend at Boulder (Mar. 6-7)??
-
SP...ha...no, that wasn't me. However, I do know that I didn't get in either. Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully you guys will have better luck than me...
-
All I know about Harvard is that Sidanius' lab is not accepting new grad students this year.
-
Great news about UCSC...haha. Does anyone know anything about the admissions process at USC (i.e., do they require an interview for the Social concentration)?? I noticed interview postings on the results page, but I imagine this could only be for clinical. I also emailed my POI last week, and he responded that decisions wouldn't be made for "several weeks", given the undetermined funding situation. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Hope all is well with everyone in this time of self-deprecation and pessimism.

So I am considering going to Boulder, but am a little concerned with the cost of living. I believe the stipend offered by this particular grad program hovers somewhere in the vicinity of 15k. From what I've read, I'm not certain that that is enough to get by. Can anyone speak to this?? Thanks!

Well, if the website is correct, looks like you'll be waiting (along with me) for UC Santa Cruz for about another month..at least. Yikes. I'm with you on the anxiety thing.
-
Did anyone apply to College Park?? Not sure what is going on down there, and there seems to be a substantial lack of data on admissions results/postings in previous years. Maybe that should tell me something about the program...
-
Admissions decisions will be made at the end of this week...good luck all.
-
Anyone know if any of the NYU interviewees are for the social program?
-
Saw the Cog applicant post on the results page--hear anything from social/of anyone else hearing MacDuff??
-
Same here, MacDuff. I would imagine that would make a huge difference, particularly this year. Posted this in the Social Psych forum, but I suppose it applies here as well...for any USC applicants: Dear Applicant, If you received an email inviting you to Graduate Preview Day by the Office of Admissions, please be aware that this is a generic email that was sent to all graduate applicants who apply to USC. The Department of Psychology admission committee members are currently evaluating applications. This process will continue through February and likely into March. Let the waiting continue...

Check it out: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/paper-trail ... t-cut.html Does anyone know if these cuts apply to graduate school enrollments as well? The article only states "freshman" enrollment will be decreased, and says nothing regarding grad school admissions. Although the flagships aren't decreasing, this is still unsettling considering I applied to most of the UC's... :?
-
If they've made a decision, the "Decision Available" field should be checked off in green to the left. Good luck.
-
Anyone hear anything back from Boulder?? Noticed someone posted something regarding the Behavioral Neuroscience program, but nothing else. I applied to the Social Psych program, and they don't give you too much info regarding an application status check.
-
No...two of us got the heartwarming rejection yesterday. We both checked on the online app.--admission decision at the bottom of the list--and if it says "decision available" follow the link. For us, it said "Denied Admission" and then there was another link to a nice little form letter. Yikes. As I said in my results posting...I considered this one of the safest schools to which I applied. Outlook not so good as they say.
