Not being in your position and not being on any kind of admission committee, I'm hardly an expert but I would go ahead and contact the school, especially if you have other offers. Maybe something like "I've been offered a slot at school XYZ, but you're my first choice. I was wondering if the wait list is ranked and where I am on it while I try to make decisions about grad schools" Of course, this could be a really bad idea too, but it is what I would try. I rushed home to check my mail box yesterday too, but still nothing from JHU Maybe today? I just hope I'm not like the person last year who didn't hear and didn't hear and finally gave up and called only to be rejected over the phone. That would really suck.

Does the program usually interview? If it does, I wouldn't read much into this at all. If it doesn't, they're probably on the fence about admitting you and decided it would be worth the price of a plane ticket to help them decide. My best guess on your status is that they're thinking about admitting you, but nothing is set yet.

Which schools are people waiting to hear from at this point? I haven't heard anything from JHU or UCLA. I've interviewed at UMD, and I'm waiting on there decision. At least I've heard positive things 8)

Congratulations! Have you heard from anywhere else? Near as I can tell, acceptances seem to go out on Thursdays and Fridays... Anyone received an acceptance on a different day?

I don't miss school, but I'm likely enough to have a job that lets me attend all sorts of interesting lectures and take the occasional class. I guess I've only been sort of out of school

I'm very glad to see this post! I've also applied for PhD epidemiology programs, and I've been a nervous wreck wondering when I should expect to start hearing! For those who have done this before, is there anything else I can be doing now to improve my chances? I don't do wait patiently well. Thanks!
