You might be just what they are looking for. It's not all about GPA and schools, in fact coming from a prestigious school might count against you. Being married can also put a question mark over your application - in your case not an issue. Either way I am keeping my fingers crossed for y'all!

Any chance that he might change his mind? Being in a city for a conference is very different from spending nine months there. I have been reading a lot about India and most people say that for the first few weeks they hated it then it became an exciting adventure. PLUS he gets to be with you.

Rachaelski: I feel for you. I am also married, but my husband is coming with me if we get the FB. It must be a really tough choice to make for you - is there possibly a way your husband would go with you? Maybe something he could do during the time you are there? Photography? Documentary? Research? Regarding my other alternative fellowship - it's an internal one and financially not as adequate as the FB - so we will just have to fasten our belts and enjoy the ride anyway.

I am feeling the nerves too, but I have a fallback position. I won a less prestigious fellowship which will still allow me to do my research in India if I don't get the Fulbright - BUT I am holding out for the Fulbright!!!

Peanut: The RTP is a few minutes away from Durham. It's considered the biggest research park in the USA as well as only second to Silicon valley in technology. Hi there , We live in Durham. The Hubby is at Duke. We moved here from New York city and love it! We have an awesome two bedroom house about a 15 minute walk (Spring/Summer/even early fall) to the East campus for $575.00 a month. As for crime - we haven't had any problems at all - the worst to date has been late night noise from a house - but that ended after a call to the police. As for Duke itself - been here 4 years and it's been an awesome experience. M
