  1. I am not in the States and I was notified just the same day as all the other applicants. But my funding was already secured, maybe that's why there was no delay....
  2. They write the admission is subject to the receipt of the final official degree certificate and transcript, but no GPA requirements are given. Therefore I guess they calculated the GPA based on the transcript I sent with my application.
  3. Yes, it is almost an acceptance. They only check if you meet the minimal requirements (GPA, TOEFL if you're international.....and they don't even check the GRE, because the Grad College does not have such a requirement). If all these requirements are met (which they should be, if the department did its selection properly), you will get an official acceptance along with you student ID. Sometimes this acceptance is subject to the receipt of certain documents, e.g. your final, official transcript if you're still working on a degree right now. Basically, you're in. Congratulations! BTW it took only 3 weeks, not 4-6, in my case.
  4. Bamba, I hope the other person decides quickly where to go! Are you in contact with him/her right now?
  5. Thank you! That sounds a lot better.....
  6. I know I would safe tons of money using prepaid but somehow I feel myself so drawn to the idea of unlimited internet access/data allowance for the new phone I'll buy in the U.S. This would definitely lead to more direct and indirect costs (soo much more time lost procrastinating on the internet), but I just can't resist. The cheapest option for this is definitely the $45 straighttalk unlimited plan. Much more than I would ever have to pay with a talk&text-only prepaid phone....
  7. Yes, from all the emails I too had the impression that the people over there are incredibly nice and more supportive than I would have ever imagined. And now that you have the same impression I'm so happy to go there. The only thing that worries me is the funding situation. I have outside funding for the first and maybe second year. In the admission letter they say that they anticipate employment for me in the future years, contingent upon the availabilty of funds. "While it cannot be guaranteed, most students obtain research assistanships or summer teaching positions to supplement their academic year stipend' Did they say something about their budget when you visited?
  8. Yes, I am definitely accepting. So glad the waiting is finally over..... I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Can't be too long now before they start sending the decisions. I have to admit though I'm a little jealous you got to see the campus and the department. I am an international applicant, so no interview weekend for me :-( What was it like? How did you determine there was a good vibe?

I was accepted for a different program and my letter contained the exact same thing. I am a little worried, although I'm choosing to just ignore it. In the emails so far, I didn't get the impression that it was THAT bad. And I believe that the department / your POI wouldn't be happy about having to drop you after 2 years of trainig. So they'll likely do their best to secure further funding, won't they? On another issue: Does anyone have opinions about La Aldea graduate housing? It seems nice....near campus, very convenient, kinda new.....but it's somewhat expensive ($620 for living together with 3 other people!!). Is it worth the price (especially if I don't want to get a car...at least not right away)? Or is it rather a waste of the already small stipend? Thanks for your help!
  10. I got my acceptance for the Cognition & Neural Systems Program yesterday.Yaaay! What about you clinical and social people, haye you too heard back? And will you be going there?
  11. I know two people from Germany who were rejected by Fulbright but later received a DAAD (to the U.S.)
  12. 22- straight out of undergrad, which only takes three years in Germany (but school takes 13 years....so there goes the saved year)
