euchreboyseeya got a reaction from space-cat in Time it takes to review an applicant
Hi all I was thinking to myself how long does it really take to review an application. I am in the science field so I only had to pay for one application I wish I didn't even pay for that application because it was a bust and for now on I will only apply to free schools but really how long does it take. I am going to go out on a limb here and say it cant take more then 10-15 minutes to review an application. They look at GPA, GRE scores see the relevant classes you took, briefly read your letters of recommendation, and take a look at your CV/resume seeing what your able to do. I can't really see how the process could take more then that amount of time. I actually emailed the school back that I paid for my money and told them the same thing I am saying here, and honestly they didn't respond back, I feel their is some truth in this. It's just a numbers game and sometimes thats all that really matters and nothing else. I am sure most people here are more then qualified to have success in graduate school. I have had the graduate school experience getting my masters now, you do research, please your boss the best you can, you get your TA work done and then you present at conferences. Well I guess I will be calling up schools next week seeing if I am still on a waiting list or got rejected. Its disappointing but if it doesnt work out theres always next year, I figure if I apply to 50 schools next year one of them has got to take me. I guess thats another thing about graduate school you should really want to go where you get along with the professor not just where you have to go because thats the only place that took you, but I understand the view point of just going to a place, get the degree, and get out.

    HI all,

Today I took the very brave step of actually calling one of my programs that I applied to, to see what my application status was. I basically and bluntly asked if I was rejected, and the program coordinator replied back with a "No" your not rejected but that doesn't necessarily mean you will be getting an admit letter. I have applied to 3 schools already and have been shot down by all three of them. I just recently am going to apply for a school that I contacted back in November, they said they had made offers but not everyone has accepted them yet. This is the Univ of Hawaii. I probably understand why people don't chose to go there, it has great weather but then coming back to the main land won't be much of an option. It's like what is a guy suppose to make of it, I will be getting my Masters degree this May. It sucks that I know how to teach, and run alot of equipment but can't seem to get anyone to take a bite on me. One of the schools I got rejected to was one in my home state. I guess they don't give preference to people from that state, and I even applied to a tier 2 school and got rejected, I searched for who was the bottom and they were it, I was quite shocked with that one. Now I am waiting on a state school in the SEC conference to tell me I am rejected. Anyone else call up an ADCOM and just want the rejection letter so you can move on with your life? I have a decent GPA, not a great gre at all, I have seen some of the scores here and I didn't study for it since I had my thesis and talks to worry about, I found out it really is a test one must study for. And even as we approach april 15th theres just not much hope. I guess I still have a chance at Hawaii, not my first choice, but I guess it would be a new experience for me out there. I guess this is just a vent at the sucky process of waiting it out, and then just getting your rejection letter in the end.
