  1. Congratulations Ingolstadt- look forward to seeing you in the fall. Who else is going to Emerson?
  2. And the cost of living alone is so large- I've decided on Emerson and Boston is sooo steep! Where I am now, I'm used to being able to comfortably afford my own space. Not going to be the case in the next few years.
  3. Thanks SLP_419! Did she give you your admissions decision over the phone then?
  4. Has anybody talked to University of Arizona? I haven't heard a thing from them (although on the results page it looks like two people have) and they said they would be sending decisions several weeks ago...
  5. If anybody has the cahones to ask University of Arizona whether their decisions have been mailed, please post what you hear. I've already bothered the nice woman in admissions this week so I'm sitting on my hands. :-)
  6. Hey Tpatoati- I agree with Messybrownhair- stay positive and have faith in yourself. I'm an older student too, 29. You are by no means a not impressive applicant. It sounds like you've done really well both in your major and in the post-bas classes, 3.8 is great! And...being an older student often means you are way more prepared and ready to study and excel in classes (for me anyway!) and admissions committees knows that. The worst case scenario is that you don't get into a program that you're happy with this year. If that's the case, get involved in some research studies study your tail off and retake the GRE's (I did, my initial scores were low). You're motivated and you know what you want- you will get in. It's just a matter of when.
  7. If anyone applied to University of Arizona and Vanderbilt- admissions at both schools told me letters will be arriving by next week.
  8. I spoke to admissions at Vanderbilt and she said we should be getting letters in the mail next week.
  9. I wouldn't be discouraged by that, I know Emerson sends out decisions in several rounds, this is just the first round. Good luck!
  10. My 'submit enrollment deposit' tab is right underneath the 'admissions decision' tab, I scrolled down- didn't see it at first.
  11. Has anyone spoken to Vanderbilt or University of Arizona to see when decisions will be made/mailed? From last years information, it looks like Vanderbilt sent notifications this week, so I'm hoping it's the same this year?
  12. Mine too :-)... my girlfriend and I are road trippin' it to...Madison? Tuscon? Nashville? Who knows...We may not know until the day we head out.
  13. Yeah- I talked to UT and they didn't even start reviewing applications until Feb 1st.
  14. Oh, goodness. I got a false acceptance letter today- heads up U of Wisconsin Madison applicants. It said I was accepted contingent on my prereqs being finished by the fall. I had specified in my application that they would not be, so this confused me and I called admissions. They said the letter was sent to me in error, and that the person who knows the status of my application is out today and "may " be in tomorrow. I'm going to try and see this as a way of learning to let go of things out of my control. Lol. Sigh.
  15. FYI U of Wisconsin Madison applicants- The admissions administration contact person told me she expects to be mailing decisions this week. Good luck~
  16. Go you guys with the 3.9+! Amazing My stats: 3.58 GPA, (3.8 last 60 hours- a lot of schools seemed to ask for that?) 1380 GRE (690m/690v) Interest in deafblind, multiple disabilities and multiculturalism Undergrad in special education 2 yrs teaching experience with kiddos matching my interest- focus on pre-linguistic emerging communicative skills 10 yrs experience working with children with disabilities
  17. Thanks for the thoughtful replies everybody- this is very helpful! Best of luck~
  18. My CSDCAS info says that no apps have been mailed yet- and my GPA still hasn't been calculated, but I received an email from Emerson telling me that they had everything necessary now to begin reviewing my application...so maybe it was sent?
  19. Hey everybody, Just wanted to start a thread specifically for folks applying to begin SLP programs in the coming year. Thought it would be helpful to trade info about schools, specializations, what we know about the programs we've applied to, etc. Here goes! Applied to: seemingly everywhere. Anyone else applying to Vanderbilt? Emerson? University of Arizona? Columbia? University of Texas at Austin? Boston University or MGH? University of Pittsburgh? Would love to know more about how the clinical aspect of different universities measure up if anyone has information about that...for example I was disappointed to hear one therapist describe UT's clinical training as sub-par. I did my undergrad there in special ed and I was totally impressed with the rigor of the program. Best of luck everybody~
  20. hi hmozer- just saw your post and was curious how things were going. have you applied to any more programs? i also had a low GRE (1060), so what i did was study my tail off and take it again. i was able to improve my score a good amount. your GPA is good, so i would think that if you brought your GRE up and revisited your essay/references you should have no problem getting into a program you'd like.
  21. Hey there- looks like you're up in my dream school- Vanderbilt? i'm hoping to get into their speech path program, but I'm thinking my GPA is too low @ 3.6. (3.7+ in my major). may i ask if you had a pretty stellar GPA?
  22. Hi everybody, I'm looking into programs in Nashville and Knoxville and have never visited either city there. Anybody know what they're like to live in? I'm in Austin now, and I love the scale and pace here. Diversity is important to me, walkable neighborhoods, affordability. I love the progressive culture in Austin, and the international community. I have a feeling those will be less dominant in Tennessee but I don't have any first hand knowledge on it. Can anyone speak to any of those points? Thank you~
  23. Hello everyone, I'd really appreciate any input on whether I make a good candidate for top 10 programs. -I have my undergraduate degree in Special Education from UT Austin, with a GPA of 3.57 (overall), 3.7 (in my major). -My GRE was 1380, an even 690/690 split. 4.0 in writing. -Letters of rec are strong and include two SLP's. -Specific and less common interest- I want to work with students who have dual sensory impairments. -2 yrs of related experience teaching at the School for the Blind -10 yrs of work relating to children with disabilities -Diverse and ongoing volunteer experience and community activity, although most on a topical level (did not lead any projects, etc) My absolute dream is Vanderbilt but I'm afraid I'm too all around unremarkable. Would they even consider a 3.57 and a 4.0 on my GRE writing? I've also applied to MGH, Emerson, Columbia TC, Boston University, University of Tennessee Memphis and University of Pittsburgh. Any thoughts on how to improve my candidacy would be so appreciated!
