  1. Thanks for the feedback lbjane and was1984. I'm going down there May 20th to find a place. I'll definitely give Century Square a look - the location is about perfect for me. Otherwise, I'm going with a realtor around the Hyde Park area. Riverside is officially out except as an absolute last resort.
  2. Yup I'll be heading to UT - Austin this fall. I'm taking a trip down there next month to hopefully find a place to live. I'm looking for a 1-bedroom, very preferably furnished. I'm only going for a Masters, so I can't see purchasing furniture for an apartment for only 2 years, and plus it'll make moving A LOT easier. I guess my budget is around $800-1000 based off of my funding and savings (I've worked for 3 years). It looks like on paper that there are a few nice places in Riverside, but I hear it isn't a great place to live. Are the apts there really that bad? I'll have a car so I don't mind the distance (~6 miles is still way less than I currently commute to work). I guess the other area I'm looking at is North Campus/Hyde Park. I hear that's where many of the grad students live, but I've heard from a few Realtors that there aren't many furnished apts in that location. Any suggestions in this area? I've done my research so West Campus is definitely out  Any feedback is appreciated!
  3. Nope, I didn't I honestly didn't even know that UT was having one :?
  4. University of Texas, in Austin
  5. Yup, just got an email from Berkeley. Didn't get in... I guess I'm heading off to Texas...
  6. Still waiting on Berkeley and Penn State, both for Masters in Mechanical Engineering
  7. Neither is considered that amazing in Engineering, but I guess Yale has more of a "name". Also, I'd imagine it's cheaper to live in New Haven than Manhattan.
  8. Yup, I'm still waiting to hear from Berkeley. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one! I'm also still waiting on Penn State, and since I'm an alumni with a decent GPA and I've already been accepted w/ full funding to a "higher rated" school, I have no idea what that's about.
  9. Undergrad Institution: Penn State University Major(s): Mechanical Engineering Minor(s): GPA in Major: 3.71 Overall GPA: 3.66 Length of Degree: 4 Years Position in Class: Top 20%? Maybe higher. 10. This is The University of Texas at Austin's: https://utdirect.utexas.edu/admissions/status_check.WBX
  11. From what I hear, most Engineering programs focus more on the quantitative portion of the GRE than the verbal or writing, so that may not hurt you too much. That's especially true since you have a very good quant. score. Having published papers will definitely help you out! How was your undergrad work? Did you go to a prestigious school, and did you receive a decent GPA? Your low verbal and writing GRE scores alone shouldn't prevent you from being accepted to a good graduate program.
  12. How do you mean? I applied to UT and didn't think it was that out of the ordinary. Berkeley was 100000x more irritating, IMO
  13. At least they gave you the actual interview. They flew me all the way out there, and as soon as I sat down to begin, they just started flinging an unmentionable by-product of digestion at me!
  14. Best episode in a while. And I KNEW that the only lady that Ben visited at the end of the previous episode was Faraday's mother
  15. I only applied to 3 schools, but I don't regret it... unless of course I don't get into any of the 3. I applied to each school for specific reasons, and didn't see any other schools that were as compelling.
