  1. Does anyone know what order the essays are read? In my opinion this has huge implications for how I structure my essays.
  2. Does anyone have suggestions for labs to work in? I was very close to accepting an RA for a lab. I talked to a few people working in the lab, and they told me that they were miserable and didn't trust their advisor. Now I'm a little scared to just join any lab that offers me an RA. Who are the best advisors in MechE or similar fields (Aero/Astro, DMSE)?
  3. I got accepted into MIT for Mechanical Engineering. Can I accept admission to MIT and then decide that I don't want to attend towards the end of the summer? I would not be attending a different graduate school. I would pursuing something I have been passionate about for all my life, but I will not know if I can do it until late summer. Looking at the reply form, it doesn't seem to be binding. I haven't gotten my offer for funding yet, so I'm guessing that is more binding. I would not mind losing whatever deposit I pay. I don't want to ask this to admissions because it will probably hurt my chances at funding. If anyone knows what the process is of deciding not to attend after accepting admissions any advice you can offer would be great. Thanks so much!
  4. I was expecting to hear from Aero/Astro on Monday judging from past years, but suprisingly no one has heard. I was accepted to MIT MechE on Feb. 11 for the masters program. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about it.
  5. In my opinion, you should absolutly always waive your right to view the letter of recommendation. Also, there is a small caveat here. Even if you do not waive your right, most schools will only allow you to view the letters AFTER you gain acceptance. If you do not get in, they can deny you from seeing the letters even if you did not waive your right. I think not waiving your right would raise some eyebrows. Even so, its a very minor thing I would imagine.
  6. Also keep in mind that different programs do things completely different. I wouldn't even worry unless people are getting interviews from the program you applied to. Even so, its hard to say if it mean anything.
  7. I got a Chinese fortune cookie today. It reads: "The coming month shall bring winds of change in your life." This is the first time I have heard back from grad schools. Not sure if this is good news. I plan to hear back this month from the only grad school I applied to. Interestingly the city its in in not very windy, but maybe I am reading too deep into it. Only time will tell.
