  1. Hey all- Anybody else receive an email from Northwestern saying something like this: We are still in the process of reviewing applicants, please let us know if you are still interested or if your plans have changed? They wrote to me a few days ago, and I responded promptly. Haven't heard back yet. I am wondering if they are seriously still considering, or if they sent it out to abate folks who were pestering them? Thanks, Rob
  2. Anyone know if Brooklyn grants interviews, or if they accept purely on application?
  3. tol- Congrats. It's always awesome to hear about writers working hard and not giving up. Have a great time at the Michener- you've earned it! -r
  4. Brooklyn has updated their site so you should be able to check your status- I don't believe they've accepted or rejected yet, but they are starting to go through admission packets. I haven't heard a final yes or no from UCSD, but interviewed a few weeks ago. I think they do one interview a week for three or four weeks, so I'm not sure if they've sent out acceptances yet. If they have, I should know within a day or so! -Rob
  5. Schools heard from: UCSD- interview Brown- rejection Nothing from anyone else yet (Yale, Brooklyn, Iowa, Northwestern) but they do tend to do "rolling" responses, which means they respond and interview into the April in some cases. We are also getting close to end of quarter for some schools, midterms and play festival periods for others. So their resources might be stretched a bit. -Rob
  6. hey everyone- thanks for the words of encouragement. directeur- do you know who you are interviewing with? i would recommend taking a look at the campus map, and getting there early enough to find your way around. if you are driving, parking can be tricky. if you take the bus or a shuttle, make sure you know the schedule. everyone is ratcheting up for the end of the quarter, AND getting ready for the Baldwin Festival, so things were a bit hectic during my interview, but that allowed me to see the department in full swing. let me know if you want any more info ( i did my undergrad there, so i know a few of the directorial faculty) -rob
  7. Hey all, My UCSD interview was wonderful. I'm sure that it would be difficult to have an unpleasant visit with the group of professors who run that program. I'll let you all know when I hear back, probably within 2-4 weeks. Any other UCSD applicants/interviewees out there? (oh yeah, and I got my Brown rejection too. but that's ok -Rob
  8. Nothing yet from Brooklyn, or Yale or Brown. UCSD interview tomorrow!
  9. Congrats, Alice! That's great to hear. : ) Keep us posted on other schools! -Rob
  10. I wouldn't worry about having not heard anything yet- from what I can tell, it's impossible to guess what any of the schools are actually doing- I've heard that some schools will interview, but some years they've offered spots without interviews. I feel like it has a lot to do with the department heads at each school. If they like your writing, your cv, your personal statement, if something in any of those documents rings true to them, that is what really matters. I don't have a ton of production history (a few one-act productions, and a handful of readings) but I feel like everything else (theatre work history, publication in non-playwriting genres, diverse education history -ie non-trad and not Ivy League) plays a BIG part in getting the attention of the selection committee or the department head. Honesty, hard-work and a positive attitude are the secret... God, I sound like my Grandpa. -R
  11. Hi All- I was contacted by Naomi Iizuka @ UCSD for an interview/visit next week. Still no word from any of the other schools, but UCSD is one of my top choices, so I am very excited! -R
  12. Alice, Congrats on the interview. NW has a solid, career-oriented program. Chicago's theatre scene for young playwrights is unparalleled, and that alone should make up for any funding difficulties (although I suspect that NW DOES have more funding than they let on...) Let us know how it goes! (oh yeah- and how did they notify you of the interview?) -Rob
