  1. That is basically the sequence of events that is happening to me at my #1 choice program [ and also the only program that I've heard back from so far] They've told me they'll pay for my airfare, but I don't yet know the itinerary, how long, exactly where I'll stay, et cetera. The department is Feminist Studies, so I'm really glad they're offering to pay - I was worried they might have taken a funding cut what with being part of the UC system during CA's massive economic crunch and what with not being a "hard science". I also can't afford to visit anywhere that won't pay. So we'll see what happens... I too am interested in whether they're willing to pay for more than one night, whether I'll stay on campus or in a hotel, etc.
  2. No... I'm looking at the family housing, but I know that it'll be at least a year before we can get into it [!!!] so I was thinking, if I go to UCSB [which I probably will - it's my first choice and all], that we could try to find somewhere in Goleta to begin with because it's supposed to be a bit cheaper than Santa Barbara.
  3. Hey everyone, So, because of the Defense of Marriage Act [DOMA], i.e. the fact that the federal government refuses to recognize same-sex marriage, I'm not "allowed" to check "married" on my FAFSA form. I have to say I'm "single". Of course, the programs I'm applying to indicate that married students get larger financial aid packages for obvious reasons. All the programs I'm applying to are in CA, and I've heard on finaid.org that California and Massachusetts both offer supplemental forms to the FAFSA to show that someone is married or in a domestic partnership even though the feds won't recognize it. I know I need to contact all the financial aid departments at all my programs to get more info on this / find out where said forms are, but have any of you had to deal with this? If so, did you actually get adequate funding? It's just so frustrating to even have to encounter this kind of problem.
  4. Where has everyone applied / heard back from so far? I've applied to: UC Santa Barbara, Feminist Studies Ph.D UC Davis, Cultural Studies Ph.D UCLA, Women's Studies Ph.D UC Irvine, Culture & Theory Ph.D San Francisco State, Women Studies MA San Diego State, Women's Studies MA I've been accepted to UC Santa Barbara, which is FANTASTIC since they've been my #1 choice so far due to the amount of faculty with research interests parallel to mine etc. I haven't heard about funding yet, though, and I haven't heard back from any other programs. How about everyone else? Good luck!
