  1. I don't see a topic for this one yet... I accepted an offer at FSU (PhD in literature). Who else is going this year??
  2. What a great thread! In the process of applying for PhD programs, I took a break from freaking out about and applied to a conference (my first out of state one!). I'm going to the Northern Plains Conference on Early British Lit in April and I'm super psyched I've presented at three conferences, but none that were geared toward my particular focus. Are any of you guys going to this one??
  3. Just this week, working on my thesis has somehow become a tiny bit easier. Maybe I've just freaked out enough already or something. Part of this (semi) productive week stems from the fact that I'm in a research colloquium, so I have deadlines for peer review (ahhh!) and revisions (double ahhh!). I've also started pestering my chair a bit more, setting up monthly appointments with him so that I'm forced to do something for my thesis. We'll see if the plan actually works, but it seems to be going alright so far. Hope that helps a little!
  4. crap.... I didn't clarify that . But yeah, I had so many different lengths for the writing samples, I tweaked Ch. 1 too. Fingers crossed!
  5. I have a "full draft" of my thesis, and I'm now in the process of (trying to!!) revise it. I wanted to send what I had as a writing sample, but because of the varying page limits, I used my chapter one, cut down to size a bit. That was what I felt comfortable with, anyway... chapter two is still really rough, and adcomms would've been offended if I even sent that part lol. So I took the "safe route". As far as actually working on said thesis: HA! I've basically accepted that it's not happening for real until I get some responses from applications. I hope you guys are having more luck on working than I am!
  6. I saw this forum at a very helpful time... the anxiety level's been at about an "orange" this week, and knowing that last year my top school sent out letters at this time (to the day) is not helping things. P.S- to those of you guys applying to Loyola Chicago: you got a letter confirming your completed application?? I saw that and nearly had a stroke. I didn't get any "yay! your app is complete" emails... does that mean I'm screwed?
  7. Awesome- Your topic seems really interesting! I'm currently finishing my thesis on the construction of queer space in opposition to chivalric norms :)

  8. I'm an Arthurian scholar myself. Did my MA thesis on the early Arthurian texts as foundational in the crafting of national identity in England, focusing on psychological aspects. Currently working in alchemical language and monstrosity. :o)

  9. Haha, thanks! Yep, I'm a medievalist working on Arthurian Romance in particular. What's your focus? I'm still getting used to this site, but it's nice to "meet" you :)

  10. Hey there guys, I applied to: SUNY Stony Brook Washington University in St. Louis University of New Mexico NYU UConn Penn State Loyola (Chicago) Old Dominion Florida State University Georgia State University (All English PhD) Medieval British literature and queer / feminist theory Good luck to everyone!!!
  11. Love your username! A fellow medievalist, I presume?
