I have not heard from Columbia yet, either. I'm assuming at this point it's a rejection, but I am just ready to have an official answer now that it's April already!

I did the same thing...I emailed Temple about my application issues with the Banner system and I got no response. I even sent my GREs and transcripts to both the main graduate address AND Tyler, which doubled my application fees, but Temple was my first choice and I wanted to make sure they had everything. I visited the school in the fall and met with the DGS and a PhD student--they warned me that the system was deeply flawed. Hopefully they still have some good news for us in the near future!

I can also claim one of the Bryn Mawr posts from late Monday night. I got the thick envelope in the mail and I couldn't believe it--it was a complete shock to me. This is my third year applying to PhD programs (thought first time for Bryn Mawr) with a total of 17 rejections so far and I was about to call it quits for good after this application season. Anyway, if there are any lurkers on the board that come from undergraduate institutions without a great reputation, are older than the average PhD applicant (I'm 31), never published anything, or have less than stellar GPAs, there is definitely still hope if you can find the right fit for you!

Does anyone know anything about Hopkins? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't worry, you're not alone! Just waiting on one school, but it is NOT looking good. Otherwise, rejection city for me. When I hear stories of second-timers finally getting their way, it gives me hope!
-
Congrats to those who survived UPenn's slaughter tonight. I thought the school was a great fit so I'm a little bummed that I didn't survive it. Also, they have the WORST rejection letter I have ever laid eyes on (and I've seen lots of 'em).

Congratulations to the Columbia admits!?! Anyone care to share their info?
-
sigh. I am having a whirlwind of emotions right now and anger is definitely one that surfaces frequently. I have yet to hear from my first and second choice schools in my program. I made two trips to each school (at their suggestion) to meet with several faculty members, including my POI at each school. I also mentioned my POIs in my personal statement. If I am not accepted to either school (which is looking more and more likely every day, since some acceptances have already been posted on this site) I think the least they owe me is a personal and prompt response. I don't care if it's two sentences as long as my POIs communicate with me. If, on March 15, I get two generic PDFs from Graduate School, I am seriously going to FREAK OUT.

Hmmm....not really my area of expertise, but it sounds like something Ruisdael would have done.

Haven't heard either and it is definitely driving me crazy! It is (I think) one of my last glimmers of hope...
-
Congratulations to the Brown admit! I would be interested in hearing your background, etc. if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I too haven't heard from Columbia, and I did apply. I agree that the atmosphere was little tense/awkward when I visited. You would think for those of us that visited, our POI would at least send us a quick rejection email if we're totally out of the running. I would think that's deserved after taking the time to meet with them. Also, is it possible that the Columbia open house is for specific areas of interest? Like say, if they got many very qualified applicants for one field? I'm just trying to cling to one last shred of hope here....
-
Hey, I saw someone posted an interview with Columbia! May I ask what your area of specialization is and when you were contacted? Was is this afternoon? Congratulations!
-
I agree with the previous post! Although no one is forcing you to make a decision today, there's probably no reason to wait (unless one of the schools you're waiting on is your dream school). If any schools give me an offer, I'm going to run around my apartment screaming with sheer joy...then I will immediately accept.....Sorry, haven't heard from anyone and it's making my thesis a lot harder to write. Altogther, not a terrible predicament to be in. Congratulations on the acceptance! Interest: Roman/Etruscan Art

Since I don't have a "safety school", I put a lot of hope into a Penn acceptance. I met with the DGS and four faculty members AND one of my LORs was written by someone (who is now working on a publication with the DGS) who was a Postdoctoral Fellow in their department several years ago. I feel like I put all my eggs into one little elite basket and it didn't pan out. ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!
-
Congratulations on the UPenn admit! perhaps overly optimistic, but I'm still hoping they'll place me on the waitlist...or something... Anyway, great news and good luck with the rest of the application season!
-
I would like to know what is happening with Penn. To see one acceptance and one rejection on the results page with no explanation...it's excruciating!

Hi All,

I just wanted to say hello. I've just joined the site and express what a comfort it is to realize I'm not alone in freaking out about my prospects (or lack thereof). I'm applying to Art History PhD programs at very competitive schools (Brown, NYU, Columbia, Delaware, Yale--ha ha---, UPenn, Johns Hopkins) for the upcoming year, but since my financial life is in ruins, I had no other option than to go mostly for programs with full funding. A lackluster undergraduate GPA at a state school won't help, I'm sure. At any rate, I'm trying to stay positive and this thread is certainly helping!

Best of luck to everyone! Octavia
