  1. Hey! I'm glad someone started this. It's never too early to start thinking ahead. Have you already figured out where you want to apply? Or is that part of the process?
  2. Oh, that's so neat! I heard that they burned him in effigy in Poland when Neighbors came out. How's Golden Harvest treating you?
  3. My theory is that some intern or office person was updating everyone's status online on Friday. Then 5 o'clock rolled around, so he or she peaced out, job unfinished, leaving the rest of us to wonder.
  4. Hi all, I e-mailed Brown about when there would be a decision (because I have to make a decision soon on a fellowship - I'm not just super impatient!) Anyway, word on the street is that there will be a decision made this week.
  5. You should contact Purdue. If they're not going to give you notice, you should get your application fee back. Seriously.
  6. One of my professors was invited to visit NYU. Then, after telling him that they'd fund it, they told him that they'd spent too much money on something or the other (in my mind, it was a social gathering or something ridiculous) and that they'd like him to pay his own airfare after all. He didn't, of course. NYU ended up paying for the visit, but he'd pretty much already seen that their priorities weren't with the students.
  7. I already got my placement for Poland. It was in an e-mail sent by the Polish Fulbright people.
  8. I definitely didn't do the optional tests. My theory is that most of these are to ensure you're healthy enough to be in an area with poor medical care. If you're going to a fairly developed country, they should be able to accommodate most things. Does anyone know if they let us know if they do/do not receive our medical forms? I'm assuming I'll wait 4 weeks from when I mailed it in to start worrying...
  9. So, I told everyone that I wouldn't know until June so they wouldn't ask me about it. Thus, I am suffering alone except for the one or two friends who know I could get notice any day. Those friends are probably tired of hearing me whine. Anyway, does anyone else have a really uncomfortable sense of trepidation whenever they look at the spreadsheet? I try to limit it to three times a day. Whenever I scroll down to my country, I'm not sure if I'll be more relieved to find out that other people have found out or if no one knows. I would be a nervous wreck knowing that other people received their letters and waiting the extra day or two to get mine.
  10. I've driven from Chicago to Omaha and from Omaha to Yellowstone. And stayed in Yellowstone. And I can say confidently that you will have cell reception. There are probably small pockets where you won't. But the people who call will leave a message, and you'll be able to call them back that day when the bars on your phone return. It'll be OK. If it's really bothering you, you can set up your voicemail to have a "vacation response," but I really doubt it will be necessary.
  11. I know! The fact that the ONE person to Poland on last year's googledocs found out on March 15 makes me hope it will be soon. But because of spring break, I won't be able to get mail until Monday...
  12. I've also heard horror stories of NYU's priorities not including their grad students... Not that the grad student's life is easier anywhere. No comment on NYC, though.
  13. Agreed. And last year, they found out the same week that is my spring break this year. Meaning, I'll probably spend my entire vacation wondering what's in my mailbox back home.
  14. I agree. Sometimes you're waitlisted and they just don't tell you! Keep hope.
  15. Have you tried LiveMocha? It's similar to the Rosetta Stone process, but it's free. It's not the best because the lessons were set up to help people learn English. So for grammar and tricky phrases in more difficult foreign languages, it's not wonderful. I used it to get a start learning Polish, and it did help. And nessa - that's an awesome link! I downloaded the Polish one for further review. They updated all the images in 2011, but the culture sections are very outdated. It's wonderful.
  16. At first it was Poli Sci and journalism because I thought I wanted to be a political speechwriter. Then it was French and Peace Studies because I thought I wanted to work with a non-profit in West Africa. Eventually I ended up in an interdisciplinary studies because the classes offered were always the coolest out of any department.
  17. Part of the "on hold" could be funding. I wouldn't give up hope. For some programs ND does admits in waves.
  18. I'm very sorry. I in no way intended to imply that you were being mean. I'm sorry it came across that way.
  19. I think it's more likely you're on waitlist. Otherwise they would reject you flat out. Plus, it's probably better to think positive.
  20. Have you considered interdisciplinary studies? If you did a Peace or Peace & Justice Studies program, it would be easy to focus on religious aspects of International Relations. Most peace studies programs have a heavy IR background. I realize this isn't quite what you're asking for, but it might be an option depending on what you want to do.
  21. If you do contact them, will you please update us with the info?
  22. I know I'm just glad that there's this website with its lists of when other people found out in the past. I swear that I read somewhere that notices would go out in 6-8 weeks, and it is well past 6-8 weeks. I just want to know by mid-March for sure what I'll be doing in August.
  23. I'm from Nebraska, and my brother went to UNL. I can't tell you about its reputation for mechanical engineering. I have no idea. I would think it would be a friendly city for international students, but it depends on what you want. What other questions do you have?
