  1. Just wondering if anyone else has heard by now???
  2. reading it makes me feel like I'm doing something, rather than just passively waiting!
  3. Fantastic news!!! I'm happy for you -- how did you find out?? Just checked my status, still no change....argh!
  4. Hi - yes, it says "Referred - Direct Receipt" and tells me to contact the Dept directly. Hopefully we'll both hear good news soon!
  5. Hi C'est la Vie, I've applied to the PhD program, but not yet heard anything. I called the grad program assistant about 2 weeks ago. She said at that time they were just beginning to review the applications and make 1st round choices. She said that we should hear by email and letter by the end of Feb. I agree....still pretty early to be hearing anything especially when you check the results board for last year. If I hear anything more, will post. Good luck to you! Hope you get accepted!
  6. Will add in my 2 cents: I'm 42 and have been a lawyer for 15 years. About 3 years ago, I realized that I wanted to change careers. Have just finished my master's degree and applied for PhD programs in the fall. At no point did any of the profs I interviewed with mention my age as a factor. The only comment was that since I already had a "professional" degree and a profession I was qualified for, why did I want to change and go back to school? I have to agree with other posters that I wasn't mature or experienced enough in my early 20s to really define what I wanted. I just went along an expected track that seemed like a decent choice, and have been fairly unhappy with that ever since. When I realized a few years ago that I wanted to change careers, I found lots of support. I would hope that ANY student of ANY age would be encouraged to keep studying, whether you have 20 or 30 years of "productivity" ahead or not! Why should you stop learning at a certain age? Maybe you won't have as long a career if you enter as an older student, but you are still capable of making a valuable contribution to society at any age!
  7. I called one school and by phone they told me I"d been rejected and would be getting formal letter soon. 3 days later, still no letter but my POI did confirm by email that was the case. Called the other school I applied to and my call was treated very well. Found out that 1st round decisions hadn't yet been made, would be done next week, then the winnowing would begin and that I should expect to hear something by the end of Feb. While not positive per se, at least I'm still in the running so far as I know. I'd emailed my POI there before making the call without any response, so that was making me pretty nervous. Has anyone else ever emailed their POI and not received a response and stll been admitted, I wonder??? Should I take that as a bad sign??
  8. Waiting on results...see in Results forum someone posted about getting email advising to apply for financial aid (i.e., grants, scholarships, etc.). Got similar email, but thought it was more likely a mass email to all applicants, not a harbinger of possible results. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from USF yet or has advice about how the long process takes for them, what it involves, etc.? This is my 1st time applying for PhD programs so anxious to hear something!
