I was just accepted this morning. I think all of their professors are on their own timelines so you might want to email or call.

Did anybody here apply to UNCG? I saw a couple of other acceptances on the results page.

If you don't get a reply it might be a sign that this is not the program for you. Oh god, now I had no idea what to do about my CV. I guess I have another year till I have to apply again...
-
I've been told by many in academia that you should always always attach your vita. This is not the time to be shy about your work. You are already asking them about the program, not emailing them about the weather.

When I applied I emailed professors first. I don't think it made much of a difference. It's nice to hear if they won't be accepting new students so that you don't waste money on an application. Some of the professors would respond in confusing ways. Like, "yes, the department will be accepting new students". Well I was asking about you personally, not the department... So that probably just caused more frustration for me.
-
Just a comment, you should always attach your vita if you're emailing future professors.

I thought we could make a list of upcoming conferences in psychology. If you know the theme (if there is one) or the application deadline for abstracts and posters then post those as well. Thanks! International Association for Relationship Research Chicago, IL July 12 - 16 Deadline for papers is December 15

I'd suggest looking at articles that are interesting to you and then looking up their authors. Professors can be based in different departments depending on the school.

Moving away from your partner/significant other?

I just had to part with my boyfriend this morning. We have been together for two years and now we have to spend another two apart. We're going to see each other once a month as well as summer and winter breaks. He will finish his program at the same time I finish mine (21 months...) and then we will make sure to move forward together. He helped me set up my new house and has been out here for a month so it'll definitely be difficult to be alone for the next week or so. I think you just need to look really hard at yourself to see what's most important to you. For me school is really important and I think we can make it through the LDR. If we break up I think it will be more of a problem with the relationship rather than the LDR. If I didn't think we could handle it then I don't know if I would have chosen to continue at a school without him. Maybe it changes as we age and all the adult lovey stuff becomes more important to us. -
Funding for Masters in Psychology?

Illinois State University offers full tuition remission and half time GAs for all of their psych programs. -
Remember that you'll need to take time to socialize with the other students and make new friends. You don't want to be the one that is always running home at the end of the day so you can be with your dog.

Starting to look for housing. Any rental companies you recommend or that I should avoid? I have a small dog. Ideally I'd like to find a small house, but it is seeming difficult.

I was waiting on 4 schools and decided to email 2 of them. I found out that I had been waitlisted at one, but that everybody had accepted the offer so that turned into a rejection. The other school sent out letters through the post this week so I should know shortly. And after some more detective work I found out that one of the other schools I'm waiting on is second to my acceptance and I will be withdrawing my application. Point is, I would have had no idea that I had been waitlisted and ultimately rejected had I not made contact with the school. On another note, it's also just courteous to tell schools of your choice early. It makes it easier on everybody that has been waitlisted.

Very possible school choice. I'd love to know more about the town. Anybody that has lived there after living in a big city?
