  1. I am lucky to have one. Except, unfortunately, their "offer" is so terrible I'm not quite sure I can count it as an offer. Perhaps it's .5 of an offer?
  2. Oh! Mine talks about the application for fall 2012!
  3. On every entrance to the Berkeley campus, there are little metal placards embedded in the sidewalk stating that this land is the property of the Regents of the UC system and that permission to cross the threshold may be revoked at any time. Also, just got the rejection e-mail. That hurts ... it was my top choice.

  5. Well, I doubt that they'll suddenly mail me a rejection, but hey — maybe I'm on the wait list?!
  6. Well, that could be. I do have a last name that is further down the alphabet. But individualizing is pretty easy with ConstantContact or some such.
  7. Gah! Nothing here. Is that a good sign?
  8. Does it tell you to check their website, or is it just a straight-up e-mail?
  9. I had one, too. But the red highlighting for rejections was getting a little overwhelming. Besides, what's to manage about my lack of options at this point?
  10. That is why I created a giant spread sheet with everything that I needed to get done and every school's response. So far it is rather bleak looking.
  11. I did the same and also have not gotten a response. Hmmm!
  12. Agreed. I also think who you choose to hire says a lot about the staff at the university. Even if one's career at RRU isn't entirely determined by support staff, if the professors hated the really rude staff at RRU, they wouldn't last that long.
  13. I would like to attend VFU instead of RRU (Really Rude University).
  14. Got 'em loud and clear. The convoluted logic was on my part! Unfortunately, my mail is some of the last to be delivered in the entire city (I have no idea why), so I have to wait until 7 pm to get .... no news at all lately.
  15. While appreciative of the "reprieve," one cannot help but note that it is a bit of a douche move to assume that all and sundry that complain of douchery must be douches themselves. How's that for convoluted logic?
  16. I have no idea if I'm that person, but I only contacted the department in question twice, so I don't believe I would have had enough interaction with anyone to drive anyone up the wall. And further, the department's website literally internally contradicted itself.
  17. Their website had directly contradictory information, and when I asked for a clarification, I was rather rudely dismissed. Not at all out of bounds to ask.
  18. I keep trying in Farsi, he doesn't seem to be listening!
  19. Just remember the name of explodingstressball and my KISS mantra.
  20. K.I.S.S. is a very good rule to live by in these situations!
  21. I think the best way to respond to them is to express your delight at being accepted, to thank them for taking the time to write you, to state that should any questions come up, you hope to be able to reach out and ask them, and that you hope you might be able to pull them aside and get coffee to discuss some of their thoughts in a more in-depth manner during orientation. But, as you rightly pointed out, e-mail is not the venue to ask them to describe what they've been up to for the past year!
