I'm not positive that no interview from Yale is a clear rejection, but I think it definitely leans that way. I guess this year Yale graduate school has decided that all top applicants (whatever that means) are to get interviewed by profs before getting formal admissions offers. I didn't get an interview there, so I'm thinking that at best, it's a wait list.

No status at this point is a good thing probably--that means either an accept or a wait list.

Always nice to start my Monday workday with a rejection lol. Then again, considering that one school rejected me last year on Valentine's Day and another on my anniversary, this doesn't really shock me anymore. My condolences to my fellow Duke rejectees :-/ .

Hi all, Seeing as I started this forum last year, I feel like I should comment. Being waitlisted was one of the best/worst things that ever happened. I only applied to 4 schools last year (all very top tier), and got wait listed at my best fit. I was elated because by then, I had been rejected from my other programs. It was a very stressful month, during which my boyfriend (now fiance) insisted on looking at places to live even though I assumed the worst. Well, the worst happened. I will never forget waking up on the weekend to see an email saying they couldn't take students off the wait list. I cried for days and was so distraught that I barely functioned at work/home. I've been really lucky since because 1) I landed a well-paying job and 2) I got into an amazing program this year. The profs I contacted were very supportive, and I reapplied to that school. With that said, my advice is to relax and see what else you hear/get into. If you're only wait listed, then check with your advisers before doing ANYTHING. The last thing you want to be is beggy. GOOD LUCK!! I AM THIKING GOOD THOUGHTS!

I got an email from the graduate coordinator and my adviser was CCd. Don't know if this qualifies as mass or personal. It had an offer letter attached.

Hi all, Thanks for the congrats! For those of you worrying/reapplying, I got denied from the four schools I applied to last year. I'm very fortunate to have gotten in this year. I hope this doesn't apply to any of you, but there is life after getting rejected during a round of apps. It's so clear it's a crap shoot, especially in US history. I study US 19th century. Hope to hear from more of you soon!

Hi all! I'm reapplying to programs this year. What are your thoughts on reapplying to schools that I already applied to last year (specifically, should I reapply to programs that wait listed me and programs that flat out rejected me)? Do you think I can resend the same writing sample (it's my thesis, and I haven't written anything big since)? What about recontacting profs at schools I didn't end up applying to last year? Hi all, I am going to reapply to PhD programs this fall...but I just realized that there is a new GRE format as of this fall. I took the GRE last October, and for obvious reasons, would prefer to not have to take a whole new test. According to the ETS, the old scores will be valid for five years, and therefore, should be ok for this admissions cycle and for several cycles after. Do you guys think some schools will stop accepting the old GRE, i.e., we'll have to take the new version of the test before being able to apply this fall for 2012 admission? Are some schools, like the Ivies, more likely to not take the old test? Any thoughts are welcome! I'd love to know the answer sooner than later if I need to actually sign up for the new test. I am not going to be very happy if I spent all the time and money prepping for the last one and it was only good for one cycle. Happy summer, pugsley87

I wish I knew if it was ranked! The department is being pretty tight-lipped about it. My prof recommended I just sit tight--pestering them one way or the other (even to tell them I really really want to attend) won't help much. And silas, which programs are you wait listed at? I'm just wondering if it's same as mine, so I'll know whether to be waiting for news (you can also PM if you prefer)...

Hi all! I've been wait listed since the beginning of March, and was wondering what the general timetable is for hearing from the program...when should I abandon hope of getting off the wait list? How many people are generally wait listed at a top history program? I've been checking the results page, and no one (at least no one who has posted) has come off the wait list yet. Anyone else in the same boat as me? I would definitely go to this program if they ever give me the chance! Hope all is well with everyone--happy almost April!
