  1. I just got a call today from Drexel, inviting me to their interview day in April. Fingers crossed that I hear from the other 3 soon!
  2. It's the worst, isn't it! 3 of my deadlines were March 1st, 1was Feb 1st. I got in all my paperwork by Feb 1st, but they're so slow to process that they've only been complete apps for a week or two. So I know it's too early to be stressed out, but I hate waiting more than anything in the world. I've also been trying to come up with some plan bs in case I don't get into the programs I want, so that's been tough to think about as well :-). Good luck to you on your other 3 decisions! Congrats on your acceptance to Tulsa.
  3. When were the deadlines of your school? Were they still Jan 1st?
  4. So I still haven't heard from the 4 Masters programs I've applied to (Drexel, Villanova, BC, BU). Has anyone else heard a decision (or invited to an interview) from any of the Masters programs they applied to??
  5. Drexel is really slow. I got that same email a few weeks ago and still no word!!!!! Same with all the other schools. So. Slow.
  6. Thanks for the info... that's what I heard from my friends in PhD programs, but they are mostly engineers/math/etc. but I wasn't sure about psychology. I only took the GREs once and didn't really study, so I wasn't sure if I should be worried about my score. But, my background is really strong in math/science/stats/research and writing, and my GRE scores reflects my strengths well. I could go home and memorize 500+ words to artificially inflate my verbal score, but frankly I don't care that much and I don't see why schools would care that much. I did get 600+ verbal, and an 800 math and 5.5 writing. So I think I've decided not to take them again and just be happy with my score. I'm pretty confident in myself and my background, but I know that there are tons of equally competitive people applying and a lot of it is just luck, or meshing well with a professor and his interests. Fingers crossed! :-)
  7. Wow... you have some serious attitude. Good luck with your applications.
  8. Why wouldn't a research-based program care about quant scores? Research is mostly analysis and data. Being good at math seems a lot more useful than memorizing vocabulary :-)
  9. Tangent... how important do you think the verbal GRE score is for research-based masters (MA/MS) or PhD programs in psychology? I took the test once and did fantastic in quant and writing but mediocre in the verbal. Do you think I should retake it in the future? Do you think this will be a liability at all? I'd assume they mostly cared about the quant section, but just wondering if anyone had any insight...
  10. Haha no, why would that make me feel uncomfortable? Their acceptance rate is quite high, I think because they charge tuition and don't provide funding. It was a "safety school" for me as well. I was just wondering if you had heard something, since the application process takes so long and I hate waiting :-)
  11. What makes you think you got into the BU program? Just asking because I applied there as well, but haven't heard anything yet (but since I took the GREs on Jan 22nd, my app is probably not officially processed and complete yet). I had kinda written BU off though, since I think they don't give funding?
  12. Thanks, that makes sense. Is there anywhere else I should be looking for money (externally) or anything else I should do?
  13. I mostly applied to schools that give tuition remission + stipend. But I was wondering what the financial options were for people who either get these benefits or don't. Should I still file a FASFA either way? Should I be applying to external scholarships/grants for my Masters work either way? What are some other places to look for financial aid/money?
  14. I did that a bit too... well, I think my background in Psychology could be stronger but everything else looks good on paper. Where did you apply, if you don't mind me asking? And I'm assuming you applied back in November? I hate waiting!!
  15. I got a 620 verbal, 5.5 analytical writing... so I wouldn't take it too personally :-). Although, to be fair, I spent 1-2 hours prepping for the writing section and I am a generally good writer. My verbal score was quite low, but I am applying to research programs and got an 800 quant, so I'm trying not to worry about my low verbal score. But I think that's more proof that your verbal score isn't necessarily correlated with your writing score.
  16. Did you end up applying to any programs? I applied to 4 and I'm waiting to hear back.. so stressful! I'm pretty confident in my app, but I wonder what the other people applying look like. The chances of getting in are so small!
  17. I'm also super worried about my chances :-). If anyone has had experience applying to these programs before, let me know what the outcome was and your background. I hope I can get in somewhere and get adequate funding!
  18. I applied to 4 Masters Psych Programs for Fall 2011 (Drexel, Boston Univ, Boston College and Villanova). Has anyone else applied to any?? If so, how are the applications going for you? Have you heard from any professors or schools yet?
