Congratulations! I know you must be ecstatic; it's such a great place, and I'm more than a little jealous!

If the intent is to stand out, you definitely would (although I don't know if they sell tights for lineman builds!). I think guys can never go wrong in khakis and a more casual button up, and I kind of envy the ease of that as a fallback outfit for all occasions.

The variety of outfits I'm packing is somewhat ridiculous, but I'm dressing as I would for a conference: dress or skirt and tights, flats, nothing too "business-y" (so cardigans instead of button-ups). I tend to err on the side of dressier in my daily life, however, so this is what I'm most confortable wearing. I definitely wouldn't go to the suit extreme, but I'm also not going to be in jeans or casual tops, either.

I also received it. Looks like a busy schedule, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm assuming we're meeting on Friday in the English department building?

I'm in a similar position as you. I'd like to be at my best, and most lucid, Friday, but I'm also planning to stay with friends who have 8-5 jobs, and don't want to impose more than I need to. At least I'm learning some patience! If no one posts any updates by Friday, I'm going to email, and I'll let y'all know the result.

Has anyone on the wait list received information about next weekend? It's been a week since I emailed, and I haven't gotten a response. I don't want to be that annoying applicant, but I also need to make travel plans--I know there are things happening on Friday, but since I live in driving distance, I'd like to know more so I can decide which day to arrive. I thought it would see if I was the only one still waiting for an itinerary before I contacted the department, since it's possible they're still organizing things. (It's also possible I'm over-thinking, because I am an obsessive planner and an obsessive emailer.) If I haven't heard anything by the end of tomorrow, I'm going to have to contact them, but if somehow my email was missed when everyone else was contacted, I'd like to go ahead and email them as soon as possible. Neurotic? Completely. But I'd like to blame this whole application process for that.

Thanks for easing my (ridiculous) worries! I'll be staying in DC with friends as well, so it promises to be a fun, if insanely busy, weekend.

To those on the wait list and going to the visit weekend--have you gotten any details about the plan for the day? I emailed Dr. Ray but haven't heard back yet, so naturally I'm assuming my delay in accepting the invitation means I'm no longer on the wait list. (It's crazy what this process will do to your ability for rational thinking!)

I'm Restoration and early 18th century. So I second the excitement about us not competing. Do you think it's intentional that we all have different areas? (AKA there might only be one or two of us in each field?)

I found out this afternoon that I didn't get into Maryland (which was expected--I'm not crushed by it), and wanted to share my info with everyone else anxiously awaiting. I emailed the Dr. Ray with a question about part of my file (not asking when we'd hear or anything like that). The response: "Thanks for the update and for your continuing interest in our program. We have now narrowed our list to our final admits and unfortunately you were not among them. We had about 200 applications and the competition was very, very keen." So, less competition than I thought, but they've apparently made their final list. Good luck to the other applicants here!
