  1. Hey DDSDevil, I just got accepted last week so I will be going to Duke this fall.
  2. Hey Team, So I've been accepted to Emory University Candler School of Theology M.Div program And I've been waitlisted at Duke Divinity M.Div program, At this point I'm down to the waiting game, because I really want to know who will offer me more money, pending on a yes from Duke. The problem is I'm geographically challenged, I live in Seattle and have never been to North Carolina, and I've driven through Atlanta once when I was five. I've devoured the literature from both schools and done the research, but visiting is an issue due to finances. Can anyone who is at Duke Div or Emory (Candler) give me a heads up as to what the students are like? I'm a Roman Catholic, Jesuit educated kid from Alaska, grew up outdoors, and I've now lived in Seattle for 4 years. I know these are both UMC schools, but I was raised protestant and I work in a protestant ministry now. With Duke, I really like Richard Hays and Ellen Davis, plus I love basketball With Emory, I like Luke Timothy Johnson, and the Open Door Community always grabs some Emory students.
  3. Still no luck, I just found out today I got wait listed at Duke Divinity for the M.Div, I'm kinda bummed but kinda hopeful. I got wait-listed at the high ranked Jesuit school I go to now only to get in later. Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to get off the wait-list at Duke or does it fluctuate too much to call? Duke is still my number one choice, so I'm praying hard. Yale Div- Rejected Harvard Div- Rejected Duke Div- Wait-listed Candler- Still Waiting
  4. Hey thumbnail, I really like what Ellen Davis is doing, especially in The Art of Reading Scripture I'm a big fan of Stanley Hauerwas too, Mostly what interests me is Church History Church and Culture (Religion and Sociology) New Testament Studies (Mainly Mark) But I'm going for an M.Div so the pastoral stuff is important too. I'm at Jesuit college now and if you use the words like "social justice" and "serving" those click for them. So I'm also wondering what value sets click for Duke?
  5. Hey Guys, Does anyone have suggestions for getting into Duke Div? I got in other places, but this is my number one choice. I'm going for my M.Div. I'm sending my app out on Weds. GPA 3.47 UG-Theology and Religious Studies Language- Arabic (one year) Work Exp.- 3 years in part-time ministry 1 year as a research assistant at a non-profit. Courses: 3 Philosophy, 15 Theology
  6. I'm a Roman Catholic, with some Evangelical leanings and some Tolstoy tendencies. Basically its a mass of contradictions. But I hold it together in some weird and abstract way. Im a practicing Roman Catholic I work in an Evangelical/Emergent Ministry And I have an idolatry problem with Leo Tolstoy.
  7. Oh yeah my extras are as follows Languages- I have one year of Arabic EC- Photo editor of the university newspaper, I worked in campus ministry for the school, and a ton of volunteer work (minimum of ten hours a week every week of undergrad) Research- Senior Thesis-Teaching Theology With Simple Drawings: Pitching Theology On Napkins.
  8. Hey Team, On Monday, I applied for an M. Div at Harvard Div and Yale Div. The thing is I'm from Alaska, I know more about bear safety than I do the east coast. Do I have any chance at getting in? Can anyone give me a hint or a clue of stats or admissions numbers? I went to a fairly high ranked Jesuit School and studied under two top notch scholars. GPA: 3.444/4 UG Major- Theology and Religious Studies (Seattle University) Work- 3 years of part time ministry, one year on the board of a non-profit. Photo editor of the school paper, ran worship for the ecumenical service for a year. LOR- Two really good academic letters and a great letter for ministry. No GRE's- not required Theology classes under my belt- 14
