  1. I am so happy that my POI at my second top school is so interested in me, but I can't help but feel nervous that my top choice has yet to make any decisions...I don't know who to go with on this one. :/

in the EXACT same situation. Going insane waiting on my top choice!

  2. I am not being able to focus on anything. My thesis awaits to be completed, I have at least 10 books I should have read already (they seat patiently on my desk), I have an interview coming soon, and all I can do is browsing the internet looking for clues about Ph.D. programs' decisions. This is pathetic and childish but I cannot avoid it.

  3. Anyone else out there with close family members who do not emotionally support - in fact, even adamantly sneer at - your decision to pursue academics? If so, how do you cope? I used to be able to brush off the insults and negative comments, but having to be in close proximity with said family members for the holidays has really brought me down. I'm feeling pretty crappy right now.

Same boat. I didn't even go to any of my graduations because no one would show up or even said congrats. I will be going to my PhD grad...if only for myself. I deserve it. Yeah, so its been years of no support, and lack of respect about it. You just gotta hang in there. It's their baggage that is making them be that way and most likely it won't change. I have increasingly gotten more distant from family over the last few years as I have progressed through school and degrees....
