  1. Just declined: 4-year fully-funded offer to University of Washington-Seattle (English) 5-year partially funded offer to the New School in Social Research (Philosophy) Hope they go to someone on here!
  2. Wanted to let the U of Florida wait-listers know that I will be calling Prof Wegner tomorrow to let him know that I will not be accepting my offer. I was accepted into the "postcolonial track". I really hope this helps someone on here get in!
  3. I just emailed the program coordinator to let her know that I will not be accepting my offer. Hope this helps someone on here who is on the wait-list!
  4. I have also been accepted to UW's PhD program in English. I talked to Prof Reed, and he told me that I am the first alternate for funding in my first-year. So there have certainly been PhD students offered funding in there first-year. He also told me that nearly 100% of students receive funding after their first-year for the duration of their studies. So that made be feel a little better about attending UW (assuming that I don't get moved off the wait-list) but... My other top-choice just informed that I have received a fellowship that will pay me $20,000 for each year of my studies (bar the final year, in which I will receive nearly $14,000). That makes my decision slightly easier right now, but I am going to to visit UW and my other top-choice and then decide on which offer to take. Is anyone else visiting UW? While they are not providing me any funds, they have been very helpful with setting up a visit. If UW blow me away, I might be willing to fund my first-year. We shall see.
  5. Hello all, I just received a mailed acceptance to the New School for Social Research for the MA in Philosophy (with minor in psychoanalysis) beginning in Fall 2011. I also received a 33%-merit based scholarship. The faculty at the New School is simply unmatched (Crary, Critchley, Bass) and living in NYC would be a dream. But, I am note sure paying tuition + living in NYC is financially feasible. Has anyone else heard anything? What are your thoughts on the school, particularly job prospects after graduating? Is anyone heading to the reception on March 24th? Good luck to all who are still waiting to hear!
  6. My interests are postcolonial literature (in the context of globalization) and critical theory, with an emphasis on psychoanalysis. I am a PhD admit. I was the one who posted the email admit a few days back, and I have now just today received an acceptance letter via snail mail.I am also surprised about the lack of PhD admits posed to the results section.I am hoping this means I have a strong chance at a funded offer. It seems like admission at UW-Seattle occurs in "waves", so I hope this means people who have not heard still have a good shot at gaining admission!
  7. Hello all, I received my admittance letter in the mail today to UW-Seattle for PhD in English beginning in Autumn. Short and too the point. It said that there were about "465 applicants" and that it was "an extremely competitive pool of applicants". No mention at all about funding. According to the UW Graduate Office, funding decisions are occurring tomorrow and letters will be sent out promptly concerning those decisions. I know I'll be doing some serious finger-crossing until I hear back. UW-Seattle is definitely my top-choice but I am not sure I could choose it over my other acceptances if there is no funding. So, other applicants should definitely be checking their mailboxes not emails. Good luck!
  8. Hello. I am the UW-Seattle admit. I found out kinda second-hand, as the Grad School emailed me to let me know that the English department had recommended me for admission, and that I needed to send in some more materials (student visa stuff, as I am Canadian) to complete my application. I phoned the English department to confirm my admission, and thankfully they did confirm that I had been admitted to the PhD program for the Fall. I asked about funding (decisions still to be made) and visitation (there is no official visitation period, but admits are welcome to travel to Seattle and visit on there own accord). I also found out that an official letter and email should be arriving soon (the email, from what I understand, very soon). I have four other offers, but I am really hoping I get funding as UW-Seattle is my top choice! Also, my fields are postcolonial literature/globalization & critical theory/psychoanalysis. Good luck to the other UW-Seattle applicants!
