  1. Got the letter today. Full TA. Tuition, 12K stipend, and health insurance. Not too shabby.

    Kingston, RI

Anyone got any info on Kingston, RI? I'm looking for whats a good and affordable area to live. Distance not a major issue as long as I can get a bus to URI. Whats the area like in general? Is it dead? I'm not a big party person so clubs arent desired but I'd like to have a few cool bars and a good cinema. Thanks for any info.
  3. It gets crazier. After the madness of what I posted above I've been told I'm in at URI (no surprise tbh) but that they are offering me funding (a suprise). All I know is that its a teaching assistantship and I'm hoping that its a full teaching assistantship and not half (halfs as good as none for me). I'd got used to the idea of NOT going to grad school, got over being bummed about it, and was moving on. Now they've thrown this at me and I'm trying as hard as I can to NOT get excited over it because I'm waiting for the "we can only offer you a half assistantship" in the letter. I'm running it through my head trying to figure out the hidden meaning of the word "offer"! Its madness. Supposed to get a letter Monday officially but have been waiting since Tuesday for the grad director to email me with the full details. So now I'm going round trying not to tell people, because I don't want to get all excited about it and get crushed if it all goes wrong, but I'm sitting here all anxious again. This whole experience has been absolutely brutal for my confidence, ego, and nerves. Talk about a rollercoaster ride.
  4. Just to make my graduate application process more brutal I found out today that URI mislaid part of my application and thus only just got reviewed - a whole MONTH AND A HALF late. They never informed me there was any piece missing, they told me it was fully complete in fact. They assure me TA's are still available so I would still be considered for funding (which I better seeing as I applied before their f-ing deadline for it!). Someone does not want me to go to graduate school - my GRE study materials got stolen, my 1st pick lost a bunch of funding, and now this. URI was my safety backup school too, and now I'm relying on them. Geez.
  5. Yes, I'm sure you're right. My post sounds silly now when I look at it. I was just upset and angry when I wrote it. My #1 pick told me they lost 2/3's of their assistantships so couldn't give me funding.
  6. MS in CS. I know MS students get less than PhD students, but most of the places I applied have a lot more MS students than PhD students. Some places I didn't apply to because they explicitly said "highly unlikely for MS applicants" with regards to funding. Just bugs me that some places have misled me into thinking that funding was widely available when it clearly isn't.
  7. I am so annoyed right now. Having heard back from a university that says "You're in! We'd love to fund you but our funding is way down this year so we can't" I'm really annoyed at them seeing as all their literature and people said "We fund nearly all our students". Why waste my time and money when you know full well you can only support a couple (literally) of students? It annoys me even more when they say "pay for your first year and we might be able to fund the rest". Talk about dangling the carrot.
  8. Heard from 2 so far. Both accepted - both with no funding. Why doesn't anyone want to fund me!
  9. I'm in the exact same position with UDel now myself! Got my packet today and it said "you will be contacted by the dept regarding funding". Is that a bad sign? I mean the deadline for the CS dept at UDel for funding was March 1st, my app was in on Feb 1st and accepted on March 20th. Does this mean they aren't going to offer me funding? They say they make the decisions from March to May. I can't wait till May!
  10. I'd sit tight. My application to UNH was "under review" for ages, but when I inquired they told me I was accepted but with no funding as of yet. My guess is that I'd been accepted a while, but they were waiting to see if funding opened up. In addition I was told by UDel that I was accepted on the 20th and a packet was sent out, but I still haven't received the packet!
  11. Heard from the CS dept @ UNH via response to my email. Accepted, no funding Said they only had 2 assistantships to offer, whereas they normally have at least 6. Just my luck They were my first choice too.
  12. I emailed the CS dept at UDel today and they told me I'd been accepted. Waiting to get the offical letter (hopefully with funding).
  13. I emailed UDel today and they told me I'd been accepted. They also said to wait 2 WEEKS to get the official letter. No word on funding though
  14. Still nothing. I'M GOING INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. The saturday post has come and gone and still nothing. Nothing tomorrow, and then we're into the last week of March This sucks so much. The one positive thing I have is that I haven't seen/heard anyone say they've heard from any of the schools I've applied to.
  16. I'm getting desperate to even get REJECTION letters now! This is the worst wait I've ever had. One day I fill optimistic and the next day I question why I even applied.
  17. I'm waiting on my 4. Haven't applied to anywhere super highly ranked - UConn, UDel, URI, UNH. Haven't heard a thing, they all had deadlines of Feb 1st and my confidence slips by the day. I really thought I'd be a shoe-in at UNH too.
