  1. Meg, I'm sorry to hear that. Though with SC as my last chance, my hopes are almost non-existent. Did your status on the graduate portal change or is it still in the "pending admission decision" limbo?
  2. Anyone out there still waiting on South Carolina or heard anything from them? (Other than the "You'll hear from us by early April" nonsense)
  3. I mentioned Spruill and Marsh, although there are a few people I wouldn't mind having sit on a committee for me. Spruill was extremely supportive in email correspondence that we had, (which is always nice) as she was my main contact for gender issues and part of the material culture studies.
  4. I applied to the Phd for American history to 1877, with a public history minor field. I noticed a few responses on the results page and emailed the secretary in the department. Her answer was sympathetic and just let me know they were still deciding. I wasn't quite sure what to make of that since I knew others received word. I appreciate the thoughts, I hope so too (though like I said, don't have much hope left ... pretty discouraged at this point).
  5. The last one to trickle in is South Carolina, who said I ought to know by "early April". Anyone else think that's a bit late? Alas, I don't expect good news from this one, since my other three all said no. Last hope ...with little there.
  6. Thank you! Good luck to you as well - and congratulations on your two offers, that's fantastic! I feel fairly confident about my SOP, LOR, and writing sample - but again, when your fate is in the hands of others (and you're one of 100 applicants) my confidence doesn't stick around too long. I'd definitely agree about the fit, which is why I only applied to four programs, they were truly the best fits I could find. I spoke with the DGS and my desired advising professors at each school, all of whom agreed I fit well within the lines of what the departments had to offer - so that did make me feel good. Like always, fingers crossed!
  7. I got that email last Friday too - I was really hoping that was an acceptance email, lol. Looking at the results page, neither of them seem do anything before the first week of March, so who knows.
  8. I know a lot of school most likely won't send anything out for another week or so, but does anyone know anything about American or George Mason?
  9. Thank you I understand that feeling, completely. It's a huge stress when comparing yourself to others who look so fantastic on here. These forums are both a blessing and a curse.
  10. In all honesty, after reading the number of other posters, I'm terrified that I wasted my time applying to PhD programs. I know numbers aren't everything and the uber subjective parts of the application play a large part, but it's such an unnerving process, I'm just ready to know. For information sake - I'm a 19th century American historian with a focus on gender and social history, through the lens of material culture (in particular clothing). I applied to three D.C schools in hopes that I could use all the museums in the area, since my MA is in Public History - I still like the idea of reaching out to the public. My fourth school, South Carolina sent out some acceptances today and I didn't hear anything, so I'm slightly frightened by that prospect. Oh well - all we can do now is pray.
  11. It depends on how active the church is in the school. I went to a methoist affiliated school for undergrad and you would never know it, Other than the founder was a Methodist minister.
  12. I also applied to South Carolina for early American and haven't received anything - email, snail mail, website - nada. So I too, am biting my nails a little bit right now. Congrats on the acceptance though - and funding, that's fantastic!
  13. I got that email and my heart stopped! Talk about a serious tease.
  14. I absolutely believe in good omens. I've had multiple dreams telling me I've gotten in to three of my four Ph.d programs - in varying scenarious - so I'm hoping my dream me is as lucky as yours!
