  1. Has anyone received any offers for funding at Wisconsin-Milwaukee for English or for Modern Studies? They tell me that decisions won't be made until the first week in April but I think they're really just making me wait in line.
  2. Thanks Scarlett for the info. I really appreciate you sharing what you know. I did not know about the Open House being so soon. As much as I wanted to stay in New England, OSU has a great program and is offering me competitive funding so it looks like we'll be moving to the Midwest... unless a comparable fellowship and acceptance comes from Tufts or Brandeis before the 15th.
  3. Is anyone still waiting to hear back from Brandeis or Tufts? Rejections, waitlists, and acceptances have been posted for both. I contacted the DGS from Tufts and she said that if you haven't heard anything that means your application is still under review. Although I have a great and all too tempting offer at OSU, I am considering staying in the Boston area because of my fiance's job. The waiting to find out whether I'll have to make him move is driving me crazy. Am I the only one who has not been notified?
  4. Are there any English students who will be attending the April 3rd open house? I will most likely be arriving the night of the 2nd and leaving the evening of the 4th if someone is interested in getting together to see the sights.
  5. I got the same call and deadline thrown at me. I acted astonished - 6 days from now!? I have other acceptances with funding, but because of the location being near my fiance's job offer, am highly considering the program.... if, and only if, after a visit and speaking with faculty, it is a good enough fit. I am on vacation right now and have been freaking out about this. Thank you for those who posted the information regarding the Council's rules. I don't know how I'll go about addressing this, but it certainly needs to be done!
  6. I went to this site: https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=UMN-GRAD and it said Decision Made; under Decision Status, I clicked to find my beautiful rejection letter.
  7. I found my rejection letter posted on the website a few minutes ago and am really bummed. Now... editing my signature. Good luck, everyone!
  8. Did anyone apply to Carnegie Mellon's doctoral program in LCS? I'm visiting family in Pittsburgh this week and was hoping to get an answer on my app before heading out Wednesday. I already have to avoid tripping on Pitt's campus (was rejected a few weeks ago). I was denied an answer on my app status but was old that faculty would be notifying those accepted this week. Has anyone already heard back?
  9. An update on that chaos that is Brandeis: After logging in for the first time to the website they discreetly attached in a general "thanks for applying" e-mail, I found that the Graduate School is reporting my SOP as missing!!! I mailed my SOP with my CV and my writing sample and have confirmation from USPS that it arrived at their office on Dec 24th. I would assume they never received it because of the office being closed but... they received my writing sample! What's going on?! I hope that someone just didn't report it to the website and that the adcom has my materials under review. If they don't.. this is a disaster because I know some decisions have already been made! The most important document is the SOP! I don't know what is going to come of this crisis, but I'm shaking with frustration.
  10. I am also waiting on Minnesota. Aside from my major reach school, they are my top choice. Someone posted in January an acceptance and now this most recent one... both early notifications because of fellowship nominations. Are there any others??
  11. All of this drama and still...I have not heard from Brandeis.
  12. To keep myself sane, I keep thinking that the prof who is supposed to call me from Brandeis and other programs that have already sent out rejections that I haven't received is just being lazy, or on vacation, or forgot... This most likely is not the case, but helps to ease the angst. I live 20 minutes outside of Waltham. My rejection letter should have arrived by now. Is anyone else becoming distrustful of their postman?
  13. Ahh it must be the buzzkill that is packing! Seriously, I am so glad that I'm not the only one. I was feeling guilty for not being more thrilled. I think the weight of a life style change is heavier than I anticipated. I have been living in the same city (one that I adore despite the frigid winters) for 7 years. My fiance is a law student in his 2nd year. We're looking into visiting student options for him to complete his last year of coursework. All of this seems to trump the bliss of returning to more meaningful work. Still, we all deserve a pat on the back.
  14. This might seem counterintuitive but is anyone else feeling down in response to acceptances? I've applied to 11 schools for English Lit; Critical Cultural Studies. I've received 2 acceptances to Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Ohio State and one rejection from UCSD. My first "in" gave me an all day caffeine high without the coffee. But since then I've only felt depressed even when a second congratulations greeted me. What for? Could I be mourning the agonizing admissions process - the journey back to grad school? Doubtful. I've worked the past 2 years in a meaningless waste of life office job. I find it hard to believe I'm depressed about leaving it behind. Maybe it's the anxiety of making decisions, my still unknown status with funding, or the other 8 responses I should be receiving this month. If anyone has insight on the mysterious blues of being accepted and possible underlying causes, I'd love to know. It has me quite confused.
  15. Thanks guys. I guess no news is good news which is why I might not bug the graduate secretary for an answer. If anyone else gets rejections I'd love to know in what form I should be expecting mine..
  16. There are some acceptances, a waitlist, and a rejection posted for Pitt English and I haven't heard anything! To those who were notified by e-mail, did you contact the department to get your decision, did an individual contact you alone, or was it a circulated e-mail? My inbox is purgatory and I'm tempted to annoy the admin assistant, but I know that's just wrong.
