  1. Tuition is expensive 14,508 per year for non-residents. And get this, if you go to Indiana for the purpose of higher ed you can never become a resident. So I will always be paying that fee. My POIs warned me about the funding probs but I was hoping I would be the lucky one to get at least the first year. The problem is that it matches so well with my interests and I know that I could get a great job after working with my POIs. I just don't know if it's worth the risk. I am applying to a community college in the area and have lots of experience teaching at JCs but who knows if I will get it. Clearly I have some thinking to do. If anyone got a full funding offer to IU and doesn't want to go there please reject it!

  2. I am in the same boat and would love to hear feedback as well. I really want to make it work with Indiana but can't take out any more loans. I would love to get some feedback as well.

Sorry to shift gears, but I was just wondering if anyone has received offers with no first year funding and what you think about them? I am thinking specifically about Indiana University-Bloomington's program. I received an offer saying that I would not be eligible for funding next year, but that I would be in the subsequent years. They told me this was pretty standard for most admits. Sadly, as of now, this is my best funding offer besides waiting until August to hear from Illinois. Anyone have any opinion on this system, or got a similar offer and are accepting it? I doubt I will be able to afford it, but was just wondering if it would even be worth it if I could, or if I should just accept the fact that I will probably have to try again with applications next year.

I know rejection sucks, but getting in to 3 of your top choice schools only to learn that you have no funding is just about as bad. ugh this process is stressful!

  3. Hi everyone,

I was recently accepted to IUB and I wasn't offered funding. :( I was told that I can apply for an assistantship my second and third years. I was wondering if anyone that is a current student faced this and how you got around it. I saw on the website (weeks ago and can no longer find it) that you can get jobs on campus that allow you to get instate tuition. Does anyone have any experience with this? How hard is it to get these jobs. I also read that you can never become a resident (for tution purposes) if you are coming to Indiana to pursue higher education. I don't want to take out loans because I have already taken out so much for undergrad and my masters. Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks!

  4. Yes it is a commuter campus. I have had lots of friends who have done Bachelors and Masters there. I was going to include "I am sure that since you will be a PhD student you probably won't even notice." I am definitely not advocating that you pick a program based on weekend life but the enviroment plays an important role. You will be there for 4+ years. I just figured it was important info.

Not that im interested in playing tit-for-tat but:

    1) I wasn't aware that its a commuter campus, but I'm sure that only hold for undergrads...so unless you were looking to get hot and sweaty to lady gaga and drinking tampico laced with vodka out of plastic bottles, you should be ok

    2) who picks a grad school in relation to its weekend life? weekends are for reading anyways

  5. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they did in fact do interviews at the end of Jan. We have been unofficially rejected. :(

Well I guess that makes three of us then, I am also hoping to work with Dr. Hare. Please tell me if you hear anything!

  6. Irvine is definitely a stronger program. But, it is a commuter campus so it will be dead on the weekends.

I was previously waitlisted by UC-Irvine but today I received a phone call with a follow-up e-mail notifying me of acceptance with full tuition, housing, health insurance, and a stipend. Overwhelmed is an understatement. Now the choice is between Irvine and Wisconsin-Madison. Anyone have thoughts to share on the two?

  7. I also applied to work with Dr. Hare and have heard nothing. A friend of mine applied to work with Dr. Churchill and he's heard nothing as well. I have a friend currenlty in the program I will see what kind of info I can get.

Hello! So anyone heard from Duke Evolutionary Anth? I just checked the webiste and still says 'submitted'. Getting rather impatient. I applied with Dr. Hare. Also find it odd that there have been no postings yet. Last years results show acceptances on the 1st and waitlisted notifications about this time.

Anyhow, would love to know if anyone has heard ANYTHING! ...as I'm running out of schools and just got rejected from Univeristy of Arizona after 2 interviews....

  8. I didn't apply to Davis but I haven't heard anything from Duke either. When I log in it still says "submitted"

Has anyone heard anything from Duke or UC Davis for evolutionary anthro? I saw someone posted that Duke was sending out acceptance notices last week but haven’t seen anything on the results board.

  9. Yeah, I'm also still waiting to hear from the Evo Anth department at Duke. Not a word from them thus far, and I have yet to see any notifications of interviews on the results page from this season. Looks like we're all being kept in the dark.

And yeah, I got a kick out of all of duplicate status updates via email. What do you want to bet that there was some strange problem with their email system and all of our results are just floating around in email limbo? tongue.gif

hahahah you're probably right. :) But at least none of us have heard. There's hope that they only interviewed the cultural ppl.

  10. Hey, when did you hear from GWU? I currently go here now, applied for an MA, but I know from my adviser that they have not reviewed applications yet. I suppose maybe the Evo Anth department is different. I think they are separate from the rest of the Anth department.

I found out yesterday. But I applied to the Hominid Paleobiology program not the Anthropology program. They are different departments. Good luck!
