  1. Penn is a great school! Congrats!!!
  2. I was puzzled about whether I should contact my professors of interest for funding anymore. I met with them and have kept regular email contact with them but they said that it was not their decision. I was wondering how could professors "work for" the funding a potential student gets.
  3. Congrats! I just received a checking in email from the department today and they asked how my decision making process went. they also said that final decisions would be made by early next week. I told them I was still waiting. I wonder what this means. But this is really excruciating. This will end soon, though. After next week I will know whether to spend five years to study PoliSci or just go find a job.
  4. thanks for your replies, slacktivist and spirito!! that really helps. Yeah, actually i have been so distressed in the past two weeks that I essentially stopped emailing them and just wait for the deadline, a.k.a the ultimate verdict, to come.
  5. Yeah, I know this is almost the end of this year's cycle...but I'm still in limbo (or sort of). So I have been admitted to a PhD program I really like. Everything is such a great fit. Except that I don't have funding (Ouch.) The department keeps saying that I will get full consideration once the funding has become available and that they are still waiting to hear back from those have been offered funding. But the school has sent me a cold letter telling me that I am not offered funding. And I know that there are people whose admission letters don't mention funding at all (which probably mean that they still stand a chance). I know I need to wait till the 15th or later and I know I need to get prepared for the worst... BUT I just cannot help indulging in such mini-fantasies as "I may still get funding". So what do you think? Does the school's letter mean that I have been excluded from even the "waitlist" for funding already or do I still stand a chance?? PS: I won't ask the department explicitly because I don't have the courage Thanks.
  6. Yeah, the CCAS letter says they cannot offer me an award...so sad. explodingstressball--are you going to the open house?
  7. yeah...I haven't heard anything from WashU yet...but have long assumed that it would be a rejection.
  8. Thanks for the info! I won't go if there's no funding--judging from what you said, the hope seems really slim, given that I AM international. ..I've done two Masters already and I don't think I am not competitive in the job market...But I will not give up till June. Three more long months to fight!
  9. Well said, Count de Monet. The waiting and negotiation ahead will be tough, though, I guess. I see you are also waiting for NYU and Columbia. Hands.
  10. My professor said that this means they wouldn't give me money in the first year and if I pass the courses I will be considered for funding for years 2-4. He said if this is from a top school, give it a try, but GWU is not worth it.
  11. I feel that Columbia has done with admission already--there was a flurry of claims of acceptance on the results board in mid-Feb. I'm just waiting for the rejection letter.
  12. But you are still waiting for five? Let's hope for the best!
  13. Now my cycle has almost ended--assuming that rejection letters from Columbia and NYU are on the way. two acceptances without funding=nothing. sigh. On another note: Is it that GWU only offers funding to 15 candidates and then sends out more acceptances without funding??
  14. same as above. "While we would like to fund all of our students, our resources are limited. We cannot offer you funding at this time. Be assured that if additional funding does become available, you will be given full consideration. "
  15. Thanks for the info!! You must have a very impressive application!
  16. Let's just hang in there for a while or try to distract ourselves...
  17. Congrats! So did they email to direct you to the website?
  18. I saw another claim on GWU in the results board, offer with full funding. my status is still "under review". don't have the courage to call. so I guess I'll just wait and keep my fingers crossed.
  19. same here. I'm still in limbo and would be so happy if I got a funded acceptance. the suspense is killing me. knock the wood!!
  20. you are thinking too much...and btw, Chicago is a great school! Congrats!!
